While attending a prestigious East Coast boarding school, young Warren Kenneth Worthington III sprouted wings from his shoulder blades. At first easily concealed, the abnormal appendages reached full size within months. Initially alarmed, Warren soon grew to relish the freedom of flight. Still, he strapped the wings tightly to his back to avoid suspicion. Warren was forced into action when fire struck his dormitory. Donning a blond wig and long nightshirt to conceal his identity, he delivered the students inside from certain death - appearing as an angel to eyewitnesses.

Despite the obvious risks - exposure, loss of social standing, or even death - Warren would not be grounded. Shortly after saving his classmates, he took up life as a costumed crimefighter in New York City. The nocturnal activities of this so-called "Avenging Angel" drew the attention of Professor Charles Xavier. Warren became a founding member of the Professor's X-Men, a handful of troubled teenagers learning to control their strange powers and fighting to preserve Xavier's dream of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants.

These new recruits rescued Xavier's original students, most of whom left the team soon after. Warren had inherited a vast fortune after his parents died, and he used a portion of the estate to fund a new Los Angeles-based team of costumed adventurers called the Champions. When that team eventually disbanded, Warren returned to the X-Men for a short time.

Later, he signed on with another team of superhuman adventurers known as the Defenders. After several of his teammates seemingly perished in battle, Warren reunited with the original X-Men to found X-Factor, who would seek out and aid other mutants under the pretense of hunting down menaces to society.

During the "Mutant Massacre", when both X-Factor and the X-Men teamed up to save the subterranean Morlocks from extinction by Mister Sinister's Marauders, the javelin-wielding Harpoon impaled Angel's wings. Rescued by Thor, Norse God of Thunder and founding member of the Avengers, Warren learned that his wings had been permanently crippled. When the wounds became infected, doctors were forced to amputate.

Deeply depressed over the loss of his wings, Warren attempted to commit suicide in a small aircraft. Though the world believed him to be dead following a midair explosion, he had been teleported to safety by the ageless mutant Apocalypse who offered to return Warren's ability to fly, but for a price. Desperate, Warren agreed, and through genetic manipulation he was granted a new set of razor-sharp wings of steel, capable of firing paralytic feathers. Apocalypse meant for Warren to become his fifth Horseman, Death, but after being tricked into believing he had killed his old friend Iceman, Warren shrugged off Apocalypse's programming and struck off on his own, too ashamed to reconnect with his former teammates in X-Factor.

Eventually, Warren rejoined X-Factor as the grim Archangel, and later still retook the codename Angel when he shed his metallic wings to reveal his original, feathered wings underneath. Warren took time off from the X-Men to cement his relationship with Psylocke, as the two were having difficulties after Psylocke had been healed of near-fatal injuries by the mystic energies of the Crimson Dawn.

When Professor Xavier disbanded the X-Men in an attempt to ferret out a shape-shifting Skrull imposter, Warren retook the name Archangel and joined fellow X-Men Cyclops, Phoenix, and Wolverine in a new team of X-Men to assist the Mannites in their battle with the latest Horseman of Apocalypse to bear the name Death.

Shortly after, Warren returned to the X-Men, albeit as a reserve member as his responsibilities as head of Worthington Industries had taken precedence. After he and Psylocke ended their relationship, Warren committed himself to the X-Men full-time once more.

Archangel and the X-Men were captured by Black Tom, whose plant-like state has returned and was out of controlled. While his life-force was being drain by Tom, Archangel's blue skin reverted back to Caucasian. Archangel, the X-Men and the Juggernaut were able to break free and defeat Black Tom.

On a mission against a group of mutant werewolves led by Maximus Lobo, Archangel and Husk were severely injured. It was then where Warren's secondary mutation began to manifest. He was able to heal quickly from his injuries, and his blood is able to heal the wounds of others. With this new power, Archangel was able to save the lives of Husk and Juggernaut. During the fight against Maximus Lobo, Warren learned from Lobo that it was he who killed his father.

Soon Archangel and Husk began a relationship and they aren't currently part of any X-Men squad. Archangel's wealth ranks him in the lower part of the Fortune 500 list and he uses his resources as the chairman of Worthington Industries to help the mutant cause. He's also a member of the Hellfire Club and has established two mutant-benefiting charities; Wings over the World and Mutantes Sans Frontières.

When the deranged Scarlet Witch warped the reality to temporarily create the world ruled by the House of M, Warren was part of Apocalypse's Horsemen of this reality.

Angel returned to his blue skinned and metal wings incarnation and joined X-Force, Cyclop’s militaristic Black Ops team.

Height: 6'
Weight: 150 lbs
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blond
Distinguishing Features: Large feathered wings with 16' wingspan, metal wings with a variable wingspan, and light blue skin

Powers and Abilities:
Archangel's natural wings span 16 feet from tip to tip. His entire anatomy is adapted for flight: his bones are hollow like a bird's; his body is virtually devoid of fat; he possesses greater proportionate muscle strength than a normal human; his eyes can withstand high-speed winds; and a special membrane in his respiratory system allows him to extract oxygen from the air at extreme velocities and altitudes.

Angel possessed a set of metal wings as the Horseman “Death”, a creation of Apocalypse. The wings were composed of techno-organic “feathers” that he was able to project from his wings with great force and great speed. The feathers were imbued with a neural inhibitor that could induce temporary paralysis. The metal wings allowed him to fly at greater speeds. The wings were retractable and easy concealed. It appears that he can now transform from feathered wings to metal wings and back again.
