After suffering almost terminal injuries in a fight with Cable, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Jack Truman, alias Agent 18, was restored to active duty by the S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists of Project: Deathlok, in the form of a prototype cyborg referred to as "the L.O.K. unit".
With his new cyborg body, Truman completed several missions along with Nick Fury before he retired. Through a mind trick he had once learned in Tibet, Truman switched bodies with his fellow former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and adversary, Larry Young, with the hope of starting a new life.
