The lone survivor of the destruction of Poseidonis, the water-breathing Mariner seeks to protect the oceans from further danger from the land dwellers. Accused of a crime he did not commit, Mariner was freed by the JLX and accepted Mr X's offer to help him find Atlantis, the long-lost mutant safe-haven.
Mariner was once married and had a son, Arthur, but his wife and child were lost in the same cataclysm that destroyed his birthplace.
During the <i>Armageddon Agenda</i>, Mariner was captured but escaped, only to be exiled from his beloved Atlantis.
