Born in a future era, Pietro was menaced by the mutant-hunting Sentinels of his time and found refuge in the past, sparking a war between Sentinels of future and past with the New Blood caught in the middle. Mercury followed Mr X when he formed the JLX from the ranks of the Judgement League Avengers, and aided him on his quest to find Mariner's lost home of Atlantis, a long-lost mutant safe-haven.
Pietro is distantly related to Blaze Allen, a.k.a. Speed Demon. it is rumoured that Pietro may still possess a little of the old demon in him as well.
To escape the <i>Armageddon Agenda</i>, Mercury was taken to the future by the Clan Iriskani.
