The storyline not only gives readers a look at new team recruits Northstar and Husk in action for the first time, but it also introduces a powerful new force to the X-Men Universe.
<a href="http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/images/previews/0103/uncanny_x_418.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/images/previews/0103/uncanny_x_418t.jpg" align=right alt="Uncanny X-Men #418 preview"></a>"'Dominant Species' introduces a new breed of mutants bent on destroying humankind, along with any mutant who would stand with humanity," explained editor Mike Marts. "Of course this leads them into direct conflict with the Uncanny X-Men. And the cost of this conflict WILL be enormously high."
The story kicks off in Uncanny X-Men #417 and continues later that month in Uncanny X-Men #418. A preview dotComic of the action is online right now at Marvel.com (http://dotcomics.marvel.com/lib/launchissue.php?issue=139), and to whet the appetite, here's a look at the first two pages.

It looks good, even though the art kinda creeps me out cuz I don't imagine the X-Men looking anime so much. Anyways :)

Warren is showing signs of missing Liz, and has dreams about her. Meanwhile, Paige thinks about Jono and discovers something about Warren on the net

I so cannot wait for Kia Asamiya to start drawing this book! Chuck Austen's script looks awesome as well.
Hopefully, seeing some closure for Warren regarding Psylocke's death will quiet the demands for her return.

i read the dotcomic preview today as well as everyone else, and i have to say the idea that paige was concerned about worthington industries be on the enviromental list fits in with paiges character. if you remember at the end of gen x, paige was very much an enviromentalist, its nice to see that chuck isn't ignoring past character changes that were added like some guy over on "new." but we won't mention any names now will we........;)

i agree. yes, i admit that those few pages are very little to base an overall opinion on, but i could not help getting the reminiscent feeling of the neo arc. But like I said, its too early too write it off, especially after reading a splendid couple of stories from Austen so far. The art is different and refreshing to see in and x-men book and it seems that the noses have grown on me after getting over the initial variance from recent uncanny artists.

I liked Kia's work more this issue than in uxm 416, i have to admit, though i'm still having trouble digesting his anime faces (too manga for my taste). But the story in itself is rather intriguing... the fact that humans are not the only animals mutating is in itself a pretty good idea. I remember one of the original origins for Wolverine was for him to be a mutated, well, Wolverine. Fortunately, they tossed that one out. But in this case, it works pretty nicely. And the fact that it's a mutant bear... well, did any one else get that Demon Bear Saga vibe?

I tried reading that dotComic before I went to the movies tonight, but it wouldn't go past a certain point. Oh, well. I'll most likely try again in a few minutes.

That's cool that you're excited about this, but for me it's the exact opposite. Everytime I see some kind of preview for any Uncanny issue drawn by Kia I get more and more sick of it. I know, he's a great artist and I think it's great that they could get a huge Japanese star like Kia to draw Uncanny, but all of this hype is really turning me off. I'm pretty much to the point where I'm thinking about dropping the book altogether.

I'm not sure how to reply to something like that, but I'll try my best. Kia Asamiya isn't the only one working on the book, you know. Chuck Austen is the writer, and he's doing a pretty good job if you ask me. If you don't like the art, fine. That's your opinion.
But just don't drop the book based solely on that one reason alone. For Chuck's sake, and for the story's sake, please give Uncanny X-Men a chance.

Well, in fairness, comics are a shared medium. If someone doesn't like the art, it's a viable and very good reason to drop the book. When you don't like 50% of what makes the book what it is, then why spend your money on it?

Im really looking forward to seeing husk and northsatr in action! but one thing is worrying me - the lack of stacy x she hasnt been on any covers or made any major appearences yet. There has been a cover with the whole team on with the exception of stacy x so where is she and whats up with her skin?

Agreed. We read comics because they're a visual medium. Pictures and words interlaced to create something more. Synergy.
If one aspect of that isn't working then it makes the entire experiance less enjoyable. I wouldn't read something by Alan Moore if a four year old drew it regardless of the fact that it's Alan Moore. Wait! I would read something by Alan Moore if a four year old drew it. That could be really cool. I wouldn't read it if...Rob Liefeld drew it.
Besides, who's too say that the art is the only thing not to a particular person's liking?

I love the cover! The costumes look great! I personally don't care for all black leather ones anyway. A romance b/n Husk and Angel that would be cute! I'm glad Stacy's out of the way for now, but I want Havok to jump out of his coma some time too.

Mmm... christmas-themed link buttons, interesting.
Visions of the Neo dancing through my head...
Kia's noses really are abominable...
At least Chuck can write well.
Still, with the way artists've been going lately, wonder how long Kia'll be onboard, anyhow?
---
I'm a little weary of every new writer trying to come up with a "new and evil super type" of mutants. Aren't the regular ones interesting enough? Geez.

Well i love Kia's work and think its much better than what we've been seeing lately in uncanny. Cant wait to see whats in store for this cast of mutants, but doesn't chuck's ideas of mutant animals seem very familiar to millars work in ultimate x-men?

Warren and Paige? Meh. She should find Jono. It brings a tear to my eyes to see Warren grieving over Betsy. I will not succumb to the grief. I will stay strong!! Too bad I can't see a flashback picture of Betts. :(
That Demon Bear thingy is very creepy with the crazy word bubbles and the mocking of its victims.
Poor Mandy and her boyfriend. Finally we get a human who doesn't have any prejudices against mutants and he's killed. :(
I'm going to like this a lot. Me likes horror. Poor Warren. :( Why oh why is the world so cruel? :(

Kia's stuff looks pretty good to me. Still, I was hoping for Adam Kubert to come aboard this title when he and Millar's run on Ultimate X-men was done. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen now. I guess I'll just have to keep buying this title for Chuck's writing and Ultimate for Adam's art.

Love everything except the noses. But I'm getting used to them. And loved the continuity. Bets and Warren, Paige and Jono, her environmentalism. Its all good. And a romance would be interesting.. just for the aftermath. Although i prefer him with Betsy and Charlotte and her with Jono. Or Bobby. That could be cool.

Hey, I understand what you are saying, and I have all the issues from 410 through 415. They are very well written, but I'm thinking about dropping it because I am not as impressed by all the hype over art that I don't think is really that much better than what other people do. It's a different style, and that's so cool, but it doesn't suit my tastes really. I've dropped some of my favorite books because of the art (Generation X would be a good example) so this wouldn't really be the first time.
