Hey all! Thought I would make another thread to help Mr. Larroca feel welcome. Please ask all yer questions here!
Mr. Larroca, are you drawing 14 issues in your first year with Uncanny AND continuing to produce covers for X-Treme X-Men?
How do you like Phil Tan's art, the regular fill-in artist on Uncanny?
Enjoy yer stay, sir!
Patrick James
Oct 17, 2003, 12:36 pm
Cap, I think Phil and Sal are rotating artists, as in equals, with no fill-in.
My question for Salva is, are the powers that be at Marvel going to let you redesign the Uncanny costumes? Those Asamiya costumes are just not right to me, but you did wonderful things for the X-Treme costumes a while back.

As far as I know Mr. Larroca is drawing 14 issues and Mr. Tan is drawing 6 issues next year.
But yeah, they are a rotating team. Fair point.
And yes, that does mean we are getting 20 issues of Uncanny next year kids! Oh, my poor wallet...

Wow... If Larroca keep drawind the X-treme covers... and draw at least the cover of the Uncanny issue he draws... that WOULD MEAN 30 WONDERFUL COVER FOR YEAR:O!!! Oh my God I'm in heaven... can't wait to see a solo Husk or Jubilee cover made by Larroca...

hi!
thanks for your questions.
As for that captain america asks, yes, that's the plan,12 uncanny issues and any extra special project(still unnoficial).
as for Philip,I had the chance to meet him in the chicago con,and it really was a pleasure,he's a very nice guy,and of course i feel very proud to team with him on uncanny.
he's going to become an incredible artist, even he's very young,I guess a very brilliant carrer to him.
The fact is that we have 18 uncanny issues for next year, and keeping in mind that Philip inks to himself,he can't afford all the issues, and with me on board helping him,we're trying to avoid those annoying fill-ins that I hate as reader(and as proffesional).
Redesigning costumes?
well,we can speak in the not too far future, but at this point i'm drawing the asamiya costumes,i don't see them horrible, just is a different approach to the characters, and definitely for me thst's the important thing in the creative process.
Is different to the stuff that I use to play, but anyway atractive...
but keep in mind that I'm not the only x-artist,I'll be redesigning just my part of character, and the rest of artist probably will design their own characters,I'm not special, all the x artists are a team, the team that tries theyr best in order to make you enjoy the books.
If I'm not wrong,I think that I'll keep drawing the xtreme covers for a while, until marvel let me.
I love those characters, and I think that I have a close portrait of each one of them in my mind,so I love drawing them, and marvel have been very kind to let me doing those covers.
In the same way that Romita's(for example, and with all my respect) can probably feel to spiderman as theyr family,I feel the same with the x-men.
I can draw other books, but I feel to myself like an x-men penciler,I don't mind if I have to draw the montly book of barbie princess or any other book,I strongly believe that I understand to the characters.
Anyway, please keep in mind that things change every minute at the company, and that I won't stay forever in the book.
changes are the esence of the creative work.
maybe we could tell surprises in a not far future.
thank for your questions guys!
it have been funny, but please you should understand that i can't say all the things that i know...at least until marvel makes the anouncements in a official way.
what a long speech!i hope you will understand my so rough english!

Phil Tan's work so far in Uncanny has been very impressive, really looking forward to a lot more from him in the future!

I actually really like a lot of the current costumes. Archangel looks really cool in his red samuri-style get-up. I like the look for Iceman with the trenchcoat and sunglasses, but not sure I'm like the purple colouring...

Good to hear it!

Its nice to hear an artist speak so passionitly about the character he or she draws. You obviously really love your work, which is great. And its X-Men, so its especially great!

Hi Mr. Larroca!
I was just wondering how are things with the Uncanny art. Do you have any favorite characters to draw? Any you don't like very much? Is it all going pretty smoothly?
From the preview art of the team it all looks incredable, I can't wait!

Salvador,
Just wanted you to know that I think that your work is OUTSTANDING. In my mind, you are one of the best artists in the comic industry. Now if we could only convince Marvel that you would be the perfect choice for the new Alpha Flight series coming out. :D There are very few artists out there that can draw a good Sasquatch, but I am convinced that your interpretation would be amazing.
And don't worry about your English. It seems like you do a pretty good job of it, considering that it isn't your primary language! I wish I remembered more Spanish from when I took classes at a young age. Unfortunately, I remember very little of it!
Welcome to the boards. It's great to have the opportunity to speak to one of the most talented artists in the business!

Salvador, lovely to see you on the ComiXFan boards, and honestly your English is excellent even though it is not your first language.
I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say thank you so much for taking the time to talk to your fans.
Just one question: For all us Iceman fans who fondly remember your fill-in X-Men #69, will Bobby be looking the same way during your run on Uncanny? And will he be "icing up"?
Thanks Sal.

Mr. Larroca what do you think of Betsy? :D
I wish Claremont wouldn't have killed her off. She was my fave, plus she looked excellent under your pencils.

Salvador,
I love your work no matter what, but do you prefer your work uninked (like X-Treme) or inked (like Namor or Ultimate Daredevil & Elektra)? I think my favorite issue that you've done is the X-Treme X-Men Annual. Whoever did the inks for that, I can't quite remember, complimented your pencils fantastically.
Thank you for taking your time and posting here! It's awesome to be able to interact with my favorite comic artist!

Hi again!
About iceman, please understand that Ihave to be consistent with the current designs for the character, anyway,in the current arc, iceman is not in the history,so at this point,I hadn't the chance to draw it.
Betsy is one of my most loved characters,in the beggining she wasn't going to be dead for a long time, but the policy company about resurrections changed the things...anyway you know..in the marvel universe nothing is definitive;)
Te idea of not inking the pencils in xtreme was of the editor(since that we couldn't find somebody that made us happy) and I absolutely agreed.
I had in the past some of the best inkers in the industry, but I wanted to do something to the regular look to the regular marvel comic books.
Something that could make look xtreme more european or at least different, the fact is that I liked, but now we are in another book, and I strongly think that uncanny should be inked,Danny is a very good inker,I think he understands perfectly my pencils, and I'm not worried about the inks anymore,he's very carefully, even in the smaller details, things that other inkers in the past ignored,Danny pays an exquisite attention.
well!
tha's all!
thanks for your questions!

Salavador, your artwork for X-Treme X-Men was awesome. Liked how you drew Jean for her guest appearances, but most of all, I enjoyed how you drew all the main characters. I also liked the artwork you did for the four-part mini series entitled Ultimate Daredevil & Elektra, which was a great book to read. Any chance in bringin' the book back?
Salvador Larroca
Oct 20, 2003, 04:20 am
Hi phoenx!
That kind of decisions aren't in my hands.
I only draw.
If editors or marvel stuff think that they should come back the ultimate D.D & Elektra characters,it's sure they will do.
If you're really very interested, you should post to marvel, because they consideer all the books that readers miss.
thanks!

You're welcome. I miss that book and Agent X. Do you get spare time to read comic books or do you just do the artwork?
The Tyrant Virus
Oct 20, 2003, 05:07 am
Two questions: It's great that you have an inker that really understands your pencils. Will he being inking your Uncanny art? I just can't wait to see your interpretations of this Uncanny team (it consists of most of my favorite characters, minus Gambit, who you draw better than anyone).
Second question is a little harder to explain. I got the video game "X-Men: Next Dimension" when it came out, and I've been wondering about this for a while. In the Credits section of the instruction booklet, you are thanked under the "Special Thanks" part. I've been curious whether or not you were involved in any part of the game, like designing the alternate costumes. I did notice that one of Cyclops' alternate costumes is the costume that (I think) you gave him around the time of the time of the "Eve of Destruction" story arc. The one he only had for like 3 issues. That was his best costume ever and he should've worn it more than a mere 3 or 4 issues.
Thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions :D .

Hi tyrant virus!
At this point, and in the currnet arc husk and archangel are the characters starring,so I'm not drawing too much x-men characters....
And as for your second question, yes,I did the alternate costumes for the game(the xtreme versions, more or less),it was funny.
Yes,i loved that cyclops costume, but unfortunately they changed the costume really fast.
thanks!

Hi Salva!
Nice to see you here. I know you're a busy man, so I really appreciate the fact that you're willing to spend some precious free time with your fans here. I have a question for you: is there any chance you will be working with Chris Claremont again in the near future? I think you two make one formidable creative team, and it's a shame you're not working together anymore.
Thanks for your time. Very much looking forward to your first Uncanny issue.

2)you ever think to write some comics?
not at this point, but who knows in the future!
3) how is to work with chuck austen on uncanny?
funny and enjoyable
how much difference from chris claremont?
they are very differents, but complemetaries,I love both of them
4)we will see some other new character on uncanny?

Another question :D :
Is there a single cover of X-Treme that you're fond of over all others? As in, do you have a favorite cover of X-Treme? My personal favorites (I can't pick just one!!!) are #7, #20, #21, and #23, although any cover that has Bishop on it is totally great. I haven't seen anyone make Bishop look half as awesome as you make him look.
Peace :)

Not problem valkyrie,I'll repeat.
I said that I answered to your first question previously in another post.
As for the second,I love the x-men costumes that Jim Lee did for the characters(all of them),maybe they're a little dated, but they looked like superheroes.
If I have to redesig the costumes,I'll try to draw them look like superheroes, that's my premise.
At this point,I don't know if I have to redo them or how many of them or even if it will be done for another penciler, but in case that I have to do it for myself,I'll try to make them cool for the XXI century....
As for my favourite xtreme covers, all of them are special to me,but now I remember one with sage #3 and two with wolwerine in GLMK2 25 and 27,and also the team shots for #1 and 10 I think.
thanks!

Hi, Mr Larroca. since I saw your 1st lithography, I am wondering a thing: every character you drawn there is a character you really drawn or are drawing in the comics you're penciling. They're all from Uncanny or X-Treme (Emma and Jean too). Everyone but Rachel Summers: so is she going to come back in Uncanny? This would explain her presence. I'd really like if she come back, is one of my fav characters. Thanks and... you draw the BEST SAGE EVER! I hope that during the Bogan story-arc in X-Treme we'll see some solo Sage cover, like the wonderful ones you did recently with Storm (#36) and Bishop (#34, if I'm not wrong). Ah, I was forgetting: will you draw every Uncanny cover or obnly the ones of the issue you'll be penciling? Thanks again!

Hello.
Not,we won't see any new mutants in a close future (in uncanny),for that, you should check xtreme x-men.
As for the lithography, they (dynamic forces)were so kind to let draw the girls that I wanted, not any specific reason, but I even wanted to draw more of the x-girls,like dazzler or polaris, only a problem of room and composition left them out of the piece.
If you check xtreme x-men,you could find any surprises soon, and I don't say more! ;)
take care!

Those costumes were the best! Sure, they wouldn't work in the movie with people bouncing about with their underwear on top of their trousers, but this is comic books! I loved those costumes.
I noticed that on the cover of X-Treme 32 Rogue beat Wolverine on the computer game in the background, and Wolvie was in his classic costume! He needs that back, or at least the brown variant.
So do you support the Valencia football team, Mr. Larroca?

same for Polaris... are you redesigning her costume???

Hi.
The reason for that I did not draw the havok mask is for the concept.
If we're using costumes like the old costumes,I mean, with some of the characters with masks etc, like wolwerine,cyclops.. I haven't any problem in drawing the havok mask, but with the current costumes, what is the sense of a mask?,he don't have any second personality like spiderman,or also don't protect him or even is not scary....and the main reason,I don't like that mask, not for the Philip design, just because is the old mask, and I never was a fan of that costume (havok).
As for polaris,I removed her head piece because with that headpiece she reminds too much to me to a capcon "vampire hunter" character(sorry:now I don't rememvber her name).but the costume remains the same.
thanks!

Hi Salva!
With a new writer coming on New X-Men, will we see characters moving to other titles? Say, for example, that the new writer wanted to use Nightcrawler or Storm on his book... will the rosters be the same, or can we expect some changes?

Hi!
I prefer the Jim Lee costumes, but I also understand that we're on the XXI century and we can't draw characters with the boxers over the pants anymore.
expandex looks aged to me(except for spiderman),but we have to look for alternative costumes to the black leather too,ii doesn't look to me too visual, with all the characters in black,it may works in pictures, but I'm not so sure for comics.
As for the changes in the teams,I don't know, you will see changes but,I can't say more.(sorry!secret)

ohMIgod. Now this is good news. How long has this Fourm been here? This is so brilliant :)
Anyway, Mr. Larroca, I've got to say that you've far and away become my favorite penciler in comics today. Its rare that you can actually see constant improvement in an artists' work/interpetation, but you always seem more than capable of taking your work to the next level. Much respect for that.
I really loved your interpetation of Mr. Claremont's storytelling, and hope you'll have similar success with Austen's X-team. (My two favorite mutant teams) Since this is a q & A thread, I guess I'll have to come up with one... hm. With you starting on Uncanny X-Men in what, December (or January?), what do you think we should expect from both your work, and your interpetation of the characters. and Secondly, how do you see the individual characters?
p.s- You're entirely right about Polaris's head peice looking a bit like Morrigan from Capcom Darkstalker's fame. I so dug that game :)
Thanks and it's great to have you aboard!

Hi Sal,
firstly thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
I'm a big Iceman fan and you mentioned that he isnt in the arc you are drawing at the minute. without giving any details away can you confirm if we will be seeing more of him? seeing he is only a head at the minute in the latest issue. ;)
I'm glad you are sticking to the current customes at the moment, you design great ones, but they have changed so many times recently and we need them to stay the same for a while.
your work on the covers for Xtreme, will you continue to draw the characters in your costumes or will you use Igors redesigns? because I'm going to miss Rogue's red and navy jump suit. :(
Thanks again and I cant wait to see your first issue.

expandex looks aged to me(except for spiderman),but we have to look for alternative costumes to the black leather too,ii doesn't look to me too visual, with all the characters in black,it may works in pictures, but I'm not so sure for comics.
As for the changes in the teams,I don't know, you will see changes but,I can't say more.(sorry!secret)
thanks!

That sorta wasn't the question I had in mind, but oh well.
Can you give us a sneak peek to what the book's going to look like or is that going to be a while until that happens?

Hi, Sal! I'm glad that you have your own forum here. Now we can find out what's going on with you without having to wait for news articles. :)
I'm sad that you are going to Uncanny X-Men :( I won't be able to enjoy your work there because I canceled my subscription to UXM last month.
There are a couple of questions that I always wanted to ask you:
How did you start working on comics? Did you start in the US market or are there any european comics that you did? What are your first works? How did you break into the U.S. comics?
Thanks and welcome.

"Sal, do you prefer the current costumes over the old ones? And for each major X-Men characters throughout the costume changes, which costume do you prefer the most?"
-Sorry if I didn't answered to your question,I'll try again...as I said,Iprefer the Jim Lee costumes, and storm probably is my favourite.
"Of all the costumes that you've designed, is there one that sticks out as your favorite? Or do they all have some kind of special meaning to you?
-The xtreme costume for storm, closely followed for the sage.
Also, which artists, if any, have inspired you or influenced your work?"
-Lots of them...Art Adams,Jim Lee,Richard corben,Byrne,Juan Gimenez and a very long list would follow..
As for iceman, sorry, but he's not appearing in the current 5 parts arc,but I'm sure, since that he's a main character that we will have something involving him very soon!
"your work on the covers for Xtreme, will you continue to draw the characters in your costumes or will you use Igors redesigns? because I'm going to miss Rogue's red and navy jump suit"
-If you can see old costumes in the current xtreme issues,is because those covers were done before those designs were available.
In the covers that I'm already drawing and in future covers, you'll see the current designs.
"Can you give us a sneak peek to what the book's going to look like or is that going to be a while until that happens?"
-I'll start on january, and we will start with a love story.
The look of the book,at least in pencils is a very open style(more close the ult dD.D. and Elektra),just to let the great UDON coloring making theys best, and I love the final look of the pages!
I hope you also will enjoy it!
"How did you start working on comics? Did you start in the US market or are there any european comics that you did? What are your first works? How did you break into the U.S. comics?"
This is a very long history to tell!!and we don't have the room!
I started doing posters for comics forum,(the company that holds the rights for the marvel comics in spain) lots of years ago, lather,I jumped into the marvel England office, which was comanded for Paul Neary (hi Paul!long time without speaking to you!)when marvel england was closed,I jumped to marvel america, were Bobbie Chase asked me for doing some stuff for her.
My first (england) works were Dark angel and Death's head.

Oct 26, 2003, 03:34 am
Welcome, Sal. I know I'm a bit late, but I just realized this forum was added :D
I've been a big fan of your work for some time now, and Emma happens to be my favorite character... Actually, that's probably already obvious in any language :)
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that many of my earlier (around July) Emma Frost drawings (http://www.newxmen.net/emma/) were partly inspired by your version of her in X-Treme, and even some of my more recent ones (Sept to Oct) still carry a little of your influence.
I'm also curious about phoenx's question. I'm a 'New X-Men' fan, but if moving Emma to Uncanny means I get to see you draw her more often, I wouldn't mind :) I still think your cover for X-Treme X-Men #23 (Emma with X logo and Hellfire Club logo) should be on a poster.
Keep up the great work, you're one of my favorite X-title artists.
I had stopped drawing for quite a few years, but when I got back into it this past summer, your work was one of my inspirations.

Hi!
The cover for issue 1,is the cover that you saw as a prewiew months ago, only that with some minor color redos.
I love enma, but I'm not pressuring Chuck to bring her to uncanny,it won't be necessary:)
I'm glad that you like my enma version Nate,I also enjoy drawing her.
You shouldn't stop to drawing,if you enjoy doing it,you should look for extra time for drawing,I think that is the only pleasure that is not a sin:D
As for the enma cover,I'm glad to tell you that dinamyc forces just have it available like a lithography..and more to come.

Hey Salvador!
I ordered Uncanny just because you are drawing it! Well and the fact that I wanted to see the mission part of the X-Men world..and the fact that it has Iceman, Angel, and Northstar...
But anyways, I really admire your artwork! (stinks that Iceman isn't in the upcoming arc..I hope he shows up again)
I was wondering, how do you go about illustrating? For example, do you start with a pencil sketch? What medium do you use to color? I hope to see another Cannonball cover for X-Treme XD

Some questions for Mr. Larroca though,

2) If you had the oppurtunity to go back in time, and draw any past issue that you wanted to, what would it be?

Hi! good morning!
When I do a cover, first I have to send an sketch to the editor,so he and Joe can approve it or asking for changes, when they approve the sketch,I have the green light for doing the shot.
When in the past I colored my own comics(before the photoshop),I used wathercolors, acrilic and aerograph.I have some idea about photoshop, but I would like that if somebody could teach me along any weekend the right use of the tools,it would be great,I would love to coloring some covers in the future!so if anybody here at Valencia want to teach me,it would be very wellcomed!;)
The avatar wolwie stuff,is because I loved that cover and I still hadn't the chance to make my own avatar....I'll try soon!
Please don't think that I'm giving hints or clues about the future, like for example the Enma stuff.
I meant that is not the first time that any character appear in different books or jump from any book to another, even I drew her in xtreme,so why not I can do it in the future?
I said that means nothing, because I don't know the full Chuck master plan for the future issues, but that's all.Don't read more, because there is nothing more to read.:(
My favourite xtreme arc was the first, because I had the oportunity to draw my city, and it was very funny and exciting.
If I could get back in time,I think that I would love drawing the enitre Byrne-Claremont run in uncanny.
thanks!

Hi Merlin.
As I said previously in any interwiew,I wanted to give to xtreme an unique look that made it different to the other x-books.That's why it wasn't inked,I tried a more european look for it.
Uncanny is the older x-book and it have to look like uncanny.
That means inks, but not problem,Danny Miki is doing an excellent job(it couldn't be in another way!)
I hope you will agree when you see the pages.

from the covers of Uncanny your work looks a lot better (even though it was amazing to begin with) but then all covers are normally better than interiors.

Hi Salvador,
I was just wondering how long you usually take to pencil a page?
I'm curious because, so far, I know Tom Derenick says he can draw 1 to 2 pages per day in his shaded style, and Ethan Van Sciver said his can vary (anywhere from 1 day to even 4 days for some of his two-page spreads.)
I'm trying to get an idea of the time frame for different styles from some of my favorite recent X artists :D
By the way, here's a sample of some of my more recent drawings: Queen of Diamonds Cast Page (http://www.newxmen.net/queen/cast.htm). They're just some of my more recent character art for a fan fiction project that I'm doing for fun.

Now a question for you Mr. Lorroca:
Besides the Guthries (which is a really pleasant suprise), what other characters will the "She Lies With Angels" story arc feature?

I know I am pretty late to say this, but what a pleasant addition to the X-fan forums you are, it's an honor to have an artist of your caliber on board... And I admire how often you've replied to posts on this thread.
I have five questions for you, I hope you will have time to answer them.
1. Besides Spiderman, who is your favorite character, which characters would you like to draw most?
2. What non-Marvel character would you like to work on? (if any)
3. Do you have writers, inkers or other pencillers who you'd like to work with?
4. What comics do you read? If u read comics at all? What are your favorite comics?
5. How is it to work in another country? First with England and now with the USA? (I read somewhere that you used to call and e-mail with Claremont and I also read that Millar and Kubert used to mail and fax each other because they can make themselves understood better that way.) How do you communicate with the editors, the writers and the inkers? And do you travel a lot?

if indeed that rumour about you doing new x-men and uncanny as well is true, i'll be ecstatic. anyways, hope you have a great time here at xfan.
on last note: any chance we'll see Rachel Summers in your Uncanny issues?
thanks!

Hi!
Le's go with some answers!
As for the characters in the first art,you will see wolwerine polaris nightcrawler husk and archangel....sorry not northstar or jubilee..
Not demons right now...
I think jubes will be in the book, but I'm not sure,I only know about current arc,but we never spoke about keeping her out of the book.
Well Phoenx....I would love drawing all the x-books,but I can't.
Anyway I put to myself to the marvel orders, were they decide that I have to go,I'll be trying to draw my best art.
You know,I love the characters, but you have to understand that lots of people don't enjoy my art,so is understandable that the hire other artis for the x-books.
Yes cannonlocke,to is a mistery why they didn't use those covers...it was done lots of months ago, they told me that they could use it,maybe in any tpb,but at this point,I think that they won't use it.
The reason is unknow to me.
Yes Leon,I know about resident evel and more...I use to play video games when I have the time, and I'm also fan of the series...can't wait for issue 4!
I think that I can say that Chris and I are good friens, and we use to be in contact usually with the e-mail.
I hope you will understand if I don't speak about changes or etc, until marvel speaks,in case that they have something to say.
"1. Besides Spiderman, who is your favorite character, which characters would you like to draw most?

1-Apart of spiderman and the x-men,I love ghost rider, hulk and sometimes avengers.
2-Not any preferences at this point to draw any non-marvel character,I'm really focused on the x-book,and I don't have the time to think in another characters, but, who knows, maybe in the future I'll develop something for myself..but not in a close future.
3-Lots of them,I love the Danny inks and he's the inker that I want to work with, colorists,I have worked with the best colorists in the industry, and I have very good friends between them!Liquid,Udon,Isanove.
And as for writters,I always have been Chris Claremont fan,but I want to work with more, with lots of them..let's see what depares the future.I use to love Morrison, but looks hard that I work with him.Millar is an excellent writter to me too.
4-since that I draw comics,I don't read too much, but I use to read the comics of my favourite artists or writters.
5-I don't have problems living in Spain,we use to contact via e-mail,or sometimes with the phone.
I'm glad that you liked the pages,I''l keep my figuers crossed for the rest of pages/issues:)
I can't speak about Rachel, maybe somebody could be planning something for her, stay tunned!

Sorry if I am wrong, but last I heard was Jean being slain by Wolverine in their way to the Sun. If you tell me those are old news, I have a friend who shall be happy. (when she knew Morrison plans for Jean was shocked).
Dawn, have you heard Master to your silence, slave of your speeches? Don't complain if I move.
Luego no te quejes si decido mudarme.

But obviously your art's get a different style on that cover.

Actually I think that although Namor and Ultimate DD & Elektra were similar to X-Treme I thought they were still very different. Not to mention the Inks also make them look so different. I think the look that started X-Treme is just plain and simply one of a kind. Im sure he inteded that one X-Title to really stand out/look different from the rest....and as you have seen his Uncanny stuff looks different yet amazing :D

OH yes anything Sal does is amazing!I'm really glad that Sal is staying with Marvel.
BUt his styles from Xtreme,Namour and Ult. DD compared to Uncanny are very distinct...
The art style in Uncanny is very...dare i say Manga influenced(well that's the way i see it:p)
And it's interesting to see why Sal made that distinction:?

Hi Sal, Fantastic work. just wanted to ask you what your opinion is of Tony Daniel? do you know him? he was the regular artist on X-Force around issues 30-43. he also drew "the tenth". when i see your work i am reminded of him.
Id also like to thank you for your beautiful depictions of psylocke and beast's last moments before the vargas fight. From betsy using her blade underwater through to their last hug, psylockes last few hours were depicted wonderfully. It complemeted the script perfectly and was quite touching..."whatever brings a smile"...sniff sniff...

yes i too love that issue. psylocke was done beautifully under your hand. i have been a follower of your work for a long time and i try to pick up all your issues even the books i dont care for. i made the mistake of not picking up any of your fantastic four stuff and now im paying for it...lol. i like your work especially backgrounds. how do you find the time to put in all that detail and still maintain monthly even bi monthly issues? do you even sleep?lol anyway figured id stop by and tell you how glad i am thet you are back on a book that i collect and enjoy. now if only cc would come back to that book with you.

hey mr Salvador Larroca,
just wanted to say that i'm a big fan of your artwork, have followed you since the uncanny x-men issues you did a few years ago. u won't believe how bad i felt when i heard that after such a great run on x-treme x-men that you weren't going to do god loves, man kills II!
anyway, caught a small preview of uncanny x-men #437 and it looks great! the cover looks amazing and i'm hoping for DF to release a lithpgraph of that (still waiting for my x-women united litograph that you've done!)
anyway, did you get a chance to start god loves, man kills II before you were moved to namor? also it seems that the arc will be about the guthrie family, will we see a guest appearance from cannonball or will husk handle the situation?
i need to get x-men next dimension, i have to say i love that cyclops design too, his return is my most read comic hehe
thanx man, hear from u soon,

Hi everybody!
I'm back after a couple of weeks with some technical problems!:(
I'm very glad that you keep posting :)
Let's go with some answers!
Hi Icey
"Hi Mr. Larroca! I was wondering if we would see an X-Treme X-Men cover with all the team members on it in their new uniforms"
Yes,soon you'll see that cover,I hope:? at least it's done since a couple of months or so.
Hi Nate.
sorry no Enma cover soon at this point! sorry!I love drawing her.
Hi Sniper
"--- how do you view your Gen X/Gen13-work today? I think this looked a bit like a rushed job.....?"
when they offered to me that job,it was going to be done with a different inker and colorist, and I did the job trying to fit my pencils to that.
Unfortunately they changed his mind and changed the creative team without telling me a single word.
to me is very noticeable that the job looks lame, because it was done thinking in other proffesionals.
Anyway,I'm not proud of it,was pretty uninspired,I think.
--- Do you know what happend to Oscar Jimenez?
Not,sorry
--- Do you have any desire to work on DC's characters someday?
Who knows! this is a crazy bussines, and the future is hard to see...but I don't think that you'll see that in the next four years since that I'm exclusive with marvel.
Hi Darkvisor

Yes,I had in mind James Marsden,Solid snake, and Tom Cruise.
I would like drawing Magneto, but it looks hard at this point.....just check current new x-men issues!

Hi Toño
"
I enjoyed seeing your depiction of Valencia in some of the Xtreme Xmen issues. Is Valencia your favorite city in España? Have you ever been to San Sebastian -- and have you tried some of the great food there?"
Yes
Valencia is the cyty where I live and love.
Spain is a very nice country with very good weather, wharm and sunny!
we have lots of cities with old fashion look, very european and also really modern new constructions.
A very interesting mix of history and future.
The food.. of course, impossible to avoid this matter, not words to describe how good and different options we have :O
Hi Gambitx
"PS: for non-Spanish speakers: I am asking a question regarding Thunderbird III and his redesign on XXM#1. HE used to be tall, skinny, and with a goattee..."
Since that when we were going to ship the xtreme book, and they were recruiting characters for the book,is an usual thing redesign characters.
I wanted to avoid the etchnic look for him,and made him look more cooler to me.That's all.
Hi bones
"1.aren't there any sketches of you online? Work that hasn't been published?
Not online,I have lots with me,but not on line.I'm considering edititng a book here at Spain but not sure yet.
2. I really love your work, what do you think is your best work?
I want to think that is still undone, but I love the first xtreme arc.
3. I bet that when you make a sketch of Colossus and you send it to chuck and your boss, that one tin soldier rides home again.
I would like, but thing s doesn't work in that way.
That sort of decisions don't use to be taken for the artist.
I can suggest,but that's all.. :(
Keep your finguers crossed for the future..
4. I'd like to see you draw other heroes in UXM, is that going to happen?
I want,But it depends of the Chuck plots!Anyway,I'm sure of it!Last time that we spoke he had great plans for it.
5. Who would be in the UXM team if you could choose?
To me,my favourites are the old characters:
Cyclops,Wolwerine,Jean,Beast,Storm,Rogue,Gambit,Co lossus,Nightcrawler,Psylocke,Magneto,Iceman,Angel, banshee,Bishop... the fact is that I love all of them :)
sorry that I can't have all of them in my book

Ooh, is this the Avengers/Uncanny X-Men crossover Chuck wants to do? That would be incredible, seeing your renditions of Captain America and co. By the way, your Uncanny covers are excellent. Dare I say it, even better than the work you did for X-Treme, both the covers and inside work! Keep up the good work!

Hi Rictor 79.
Drawing archangel use to be a problem, because wings are too big,if you draw his back, you only can see wings, hard to move the camera around him, because wings cover everything...is a problem, specially if you want to be realistic.Drawing him in civilian clothes is almost impossible, but in contrast, when he's flying,is very expectacular.
Anyway is a nice character to me.
Hi Bebi.
Real Madrid is a great team, but Valencia with just a very small portion of the Real Madrid money, use to be close,or very close, and sometimes,at the top.....Anyway,the Real Madrid use to look to me a sort of The Avengers, they're the most powerfull team...
Hi again Captain America.
I don't know if this is what Chuck is planning,in any case I love drawing the classic characters.
But in any case I drew them in the past in Xtreme.
Hi Ahab26
Definitely yes!
I loved since that John Byrne and Chris Claremont created them, unfortunately they haven't been a too lucky team in past years, but I hope they will rise again, and of course,I would love drawing them in Uncanny again!
thanks!

You still draw the best Sage, ever. The face expression is just right and she looks so stylish. I like this version of her outfit a lot more than what she wears in the actual book. (but your original design is the coolest :worthy: )

Hey Sal, heres another question about one of the original X-Men. Iceman (until recently) has been the most underused x-man in the nineties and since his return, the artists that draw him dont bother "icing him up", so he remains human in appearance (with an Hawaiin shirt in some cases!). Is the decision to keep him looking human the artists decision or the writers? What would you like to do with bobby?

Thank you for making every issue of x-treme enjoyable. I was blown away by your art in issue #1 and continued to be so untill you left :( . Your x-treme covers for #35 and #42 are breathtaking! No one draws Sage the way you can! Anyway, what do you think of X-treme's new costumes and will you be designing any for Uncanny? Also it was said that you wanted to bring Psylocke back, I agree with you completely, but what was it about her that you liked?
Thanks

Hi Rimpelwillem.
Iy you're asking me about Bachalo,I don't know him in person, but to me is one of the best artist in the industry.
But not,I din't study that effect too much,I just did in the way that I think that it could look in real life.
Hi Salvador.
YEs,you'll see a Sage cover very soon, and by the way, thanks for the compliments:) I'm glad that you like the xtreme cover. Is the same cover thay issue 1,but with the new mewmbers and costumes, just an small joke to me and Chris.

probably we will redo some stuff on the unc. cover,I'm not fully pleased with the angel face coloring.
Hi Soundwawe.

Hi Rictor 79.
At this point,I'm not drawing Bobbie in any of the done issues, but probably I'll do in the future, and if I draw him,I'll do in full ice body(Of course if the history let me)
Hi Icey.
Sorry,at this point, not any Iceman cover soon:(
Hi Sage4ever.
As you know,I'm a hired penciler,so they don't have to ask me in order to change the costumes or whatever.
To me,this is comics, something very different to pictures,(the colour in costumes is very important),I think that the heroes should look like heroes, and the costumes should look cool and with any elements in colour.
If the new penciller said that my stuff sucks(like he said in any past post in another forum)is just his taste, which of course,I don't agree and I'm sorry for it,anyway,he's a good penciller, and is sure that he have good reasons for designing the costumes as he did.
In any case,I keep enjoying drawing the covers wich I love to do,really don't mind doing it with whatever costume,I just love the characters.
As for uncanny, not,at this point I didn't any redesigng any characters, but to me they look fine.

Same here! The art in current X-Treme isn't the best Kordey has done and even if it was, I would prefer Salva's work.
Couple new questions if that's okay.
1) How much do you use live models and photos to help you? Does the architecture in different countries give a lot of extra work?
2) Would you like to draw more Spanish characters like el Aguila (only one that comes to my mind)?
Thanks!

Well, it seems that Davis has publicly admited he and Claremont will work closely on Uncanny X Men. So Salva should be moving to (posibly) New with Austen?. I haven't read any official confirmation, so I don't hope Salva to comment it. I am simply sorry for him, not because of the fact of been moved, but of been changed so frecuently. If I'm not wrong, he will have been working in four series in one year (XXM, Namor, UXM and now NXM). I am working as temporary worker with short jobs, and for me, it burns to change so frecuently, so I suppose it could be the same for Salva. I only hope that you continue drawing, that you enjoy your new task and that you continue with your success.
And of course, I hope that if you go to NXM, we can see your Jean Grey. Else, I and a friend of mine (Chibi, do you remember her, Salva?) would be very angry with Morrison for definitely killing her.
And I hope that this doesn't mean an end to a posible crossover X Men- Avengers. Ey, you haven't worked on them, Salva... who knows...? Though it is true I would have liked to see Davis on them both in script and pencils.

It's 100% Offical Chris Claremont and Alan Davs are doing Uncanny X-Men. CC is also staying on X-Treme X-Men as well. I believe Salvador will be working on New X-Men with the new writer. Whomever that is, Warren Ellis, J.Michael Straczynski, or Brian K. Vaughan, etc. However I hightly doubt that Igor Kordy is staying on X-Treme beyond #46, or #50. I think we'll see someone else taking over the reigns on that book artistically.

Actually, this X-men: Reload event is supposed to take place in April I believe, as the solicitations for February all have story arcs running through the 3 core X-titles ending the following month (March). So it makes sense that they would do the relaunch the month after all these story arcs end, which is April.
It's 100% Offical Chris Claremont and Alan Davs are doing Uncanny X-Men.
You got that right. I, for one, am excited too. Couldn't be worse than Austen IMO.
CC is also staying on X-Treme X-Men as well.
Not necessarily true. Claremont made some comments in the X-treme X-men thread saying that X-treme X-men was "his" to work on as long as Marvel is publishing it and that it wouldn't get a name change, but nowhere did he say that it wouldn't be cancelled when he moves to Uncanny. Also, Rich Johnston and other credible rumor sources are apparently claiming that that is indeed the case, that X-treme is to be cancelled once CC moves to Uncanny.
I believe Salvador will be working on New X-Men with the new writer.
Rich Johnston also said this in his latest rumor column (which is usually pretty accurate).
Whomever that is, Warren Ellis, J.Michael Straczynski, or Brian K. Vaughan, etc.
Current speculation has Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame) as the front-runner for the gig.
However I hightly doubt that Igor Kordy is staying on X-Treme beyond #46, or #50. I think we'll see someone else taking over the reigns on that book artistically.
Like I said, don't get your hopes up as it very well may end up being cancelled. Personally I hope it will be. There's just no need for 2 core X-men books to be written by CC. I think Uncanny and New X-men would be plenty.

Thanks for telling us about some of the X-Treme covers you've got coming up -- I'm particularly excited about the Kitty cover! She's been one of my favorite comics characters for 20 years now, and I have to say that your drawing of her on the cover of #26 is one of my three or four favorite drawings of her ever! It's absolutely beautiful, and I feel that it really captures the "essence" of Kitty. I like that she's smiling, too -- we don't see Kitty smiling enough any more!
I'm very happy that you'll be doing another Kitty cover!
Y una pregunta para ti: On about p. 2 of this thread, you mentioned the little "joke" on the recent Rogue cover -- where she defeats Wolverine in the video game. I LOVED that joke -- it's so perfect for Rogue! So my question is: was that little joke YOUR idea?

Hi again Sal,
I just wanted to show you my new Emma painting since her outfit was based on the robe that you drew in X-Treme (during the Schism story arc).
Frosted Sunset digital painting (http://newxmen.net/emma/show.htm?sunset)
I loved the way you drew my favorite character, so I wanted to do that look at least once. Hope you like it :)

Dear Sal,
I got your X-Women Lithograph a few minutes ago, I absolutely love it!!
Everyone on the litho looks great, especially Sage! No artist will ever draw her better than you did, and I loved the pale skin tone that Liquid used, too!
The Uncanny previews made me miss your art in X-Treme more (If that's even possible!) :( so lovely!

I don't think he knows how to draw Kitty any way other than fantastic!
EDIT: Señor Larroca's Kitty cover is up in the previews section now ... and MAN, it's GORGEOUS!
And could I just say how thrilled I am about who Kitty is sharing her cover with?!?!?
:omg: :excited: :cloud9:

Hi Mr Larroca, I'm here just to tell you how wonderful is the Kitty cover! I hope you'll do a Psylocke cover soon! I'd also love to see - maybe in April, the X-men Reloaded month - some puzzle cover in Uncanny, New and X-Treme (for you've drawn or it seems you'll draw all of them) like you did this year in X-Treme!
So have a merry x-mas and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I already know 2004 will be another spectacular year of your amazing pictures!
I've also opened a site with only you pictures, I hope I am allowed to put here the link, if not somebody tells me and I'll correct, ok? Here's the site, only in Italian for now (I'm italian) but I'd be glad if you visit and I hope you like it!

It's dedicated to you! (Like my 1st site, too), so enjoy and happy X-Mas again!

Well it's only another month till the April solicitations. We'll probably see all our answers there, so it's not that long of a wait anymore.
I can picture it under the New X-Men preview already...

I just thought I'd join in the praise and say the Kitty cover is absolutly amazing. I'm blown away by it. brilliant work.
What do you think of this Sal, this isnt my idea this IS someone else's but i just want to say this to you.
Idea for a cover(not mine and im not takin credit),or just to draw and show us:D
ok Pheonix and Psylocke standing right next to eachother or back to back. and in the backround on Pheonix's side it got Pheonix's big raptor effect, and on psylocke's side its betsy's butterfly effect.
i think if you drew that it would be so awesome.:yeah:
n e ways i think your art is great and its what attracted me to Xtreme Xmen.
I loved how you drew Psylocke she is my fave character and you did her justice yes indeed.
cant wait for your upcoming covers. and hopefully:cross: you'll one day come back to X-treme X-Men.
:soapbox: i'll get off this now:look:
:worthy: to your incredible talent

Not so sure about this anymore. All the rumor columns have John Cassaday (Planetary, Captain America) now providing the pencils for New X-men. And with Alan Davis on Uncanny and X-treme allegedly being cancelled, where does that leave Sal? Wolverine (I would so love to see this)? Ultimate X-men (not likely since I think Dave Finch is on this book for the foreseeable future)? Hmm...the X-offices certainly seem to have an overabundance of talented pencilers, don't they? So what's the deal, Sal? Can you tell us whether or not you'll be on an X-title after the big Reload event? And, if so, will it be a core title or a spin-off book? Thanks in advance.

Hi Sal,
loved the preview art for uncanny 437, but i have to ask (maybe its been asked already), whose decision was it to give warren brown hair!? i quite like the change. and his wings look great. good job.

I doubt XXM will be canceled, that never made any sense, plus CC has been saying pretty adamentally it wont be. The "marvel wont let CC have 2 xbooks thing" is kinda silly considering they have him on Xmen the end, and they parade Chuck Austen around all these titles.
If that one rumor is true, they will probably want to keep Larocca on some Xmen property. Either move him back to XXM or perhaps Wolverine

Hi guys.
I hope you had a great Christmas!
Don't get worried about what book I'll be drawing,Marvel will be doing a big anouncement soon, and I think you'll be happy, not just with my book, also with the rest of x-books.
I only can say that I'm the worst of the artists of the reload stuff!
Rumors are just rumors, and as for that I know, aren't accurate.
Sorry,but I can't speak more about it.
Anyway,thanks for your interest!

I think Chris Claremont has been a bad influence on you -- this is like the kind of teasing he does! :)
But seriously, I can't wait to find out the details of what you'll be working on. Whatever it is, I know it'll be great!
¡Que el año nuevo sea próspero y feliz para todos!

But it certainly sounds like a certain thread in the News forum is wrong then... Knowing Ethan, I can't say I'm surprised ;)
