Beatriz Bonilla Da Costa was born in Brazil and after an uneventful childhood, became a famous Brazilian entertainer. Later she grew bored of her role and instead became a top secret agent for the Espiaos Nacionales Bureau, the national cloak-and-dagger agency. Bea served the ENB with distinction. On one of her cases with the ENB Bea found herself trapped in a pyroplasmic explosion that endowed her with the power of being able to exhale an eight-inch burst of fire.

Bea used her new powers to become a superheroine, operating under the name of Green Fury. When she joined the Global Guardians, a team constructed of various nations' superheroes to help protect the world, she changed her name to Green Flame. Bea served for a long time as a loyal Guardians member and also as her home country's national hero. Whilst on a mission to Canada for the Guardians, Bea met the second generation American hero team, Infinity, Inc. This was her first experience of American super teams.

The Guardians never really found a niche. They were neither as powerful or as organised a team as the Justice League International. When Maxwell Lord established the Justice League Europe branch of the JLI, it became clear just how redundant the Guardians had become. The group decided to disband. Following this break up, Bea convinced her best friend and fellow former Guardian, Tora to apply for membership with her to the Justice League. Green Flame and Icemaiden were accepted into the League but soon changed their names to simply Fire and Ice. Bea continued to serve with the fledgling league and watched as Guy Gardner courted her best friend, a relationship she was not in approval of. During the Invasion crisis, in which several different alien races invaded Earth simultaneously, Bea again found herself caught in an explosion. This time it was the result of the Dominator's gene bomb, which activated latent powers in many humans and enhanced Bea's powers even more. A fall back of the explosion was that Bea's powers were now much less reliable and she was prone to being extinguished.

Bea remained on the JLI's membership for the remainder of its existence, serving longer than any other member. Given her newfound fame, she also took up modelling, and released a swimsuit calendar. This was soon pulped when she realised that Booster Gold had bankrolled the venture so that he could fulfil his voyeuristic interests.

Bea's life changed when the JLA fought the monster known as Doomsday. During the battle Doomsday withstood the entire force of the League's offence and Bea found herself spent, unable to generate any more flame. Also during this battle, several of her teammates were seriously hurt and decided to leave the League. Bea stayed with the team despite her lack of power, assisting on monitor duty and at HQ. Soon Bea's powers returned through a natural healing process, this time stronger and more violent than ever. However, they were not enough to aid her best friend as the villain, the Overmaster, killed Ice. Bea struggled to cope with this loss as she had no other close friends within the League. She asked the sorcerer Arion to help her talk to Tora beyond the grave but found little solace. Bea proceeded to have a one-night stand with Guy Gardner, which she immediately regretted. She also considered a relationship with the first Icemaiden, Sigrid Nansen, who had recently joined the League and made her sexuality clear. Bea soon realised that these relationships were nothing more than an attempt to replace Tora and moved on from them, leaving the JLI all together when the team disbanded.

Bea remains a reserve member for the JLA and is also active in adventuring around the globe, especially in Brazil. Bea has also been interviewed by Cameron Chase, operative of the DEO, who found out information on the Martian Manhunter, without Bea realising who she really was. Recently, Bea has used her confidence and keen business mind to establish her own adult web site, showcasing herself. Bea was then approached by Maxwell Lord, who asked her to be a member of his newest super hero venture, the Superbuddies. Bea was vital to the team, saving them from the clutches of the villain Roulette, as only she was able to free herself from the mind control of the House. Bea used the fact that her native tongue is Portuguese to think in Portuguese, thus overriding the mental commands.

Bea's initial powers were the ability to breath an eight-inch burst of fire. Using this she could then propel herself airborne and fly, or fire the burst at her opponents. Since being caught in the gene bomb explosion, Bea's powers changed so that she would envelop herself totally in flame, appearing naked. She could then fly and shoot flame from her body. She doesn't possess any pyrokinetic powers, only generation and projection. After fighting Doomsday, Bea extinguished her flame though this naturally returned with even greater potency.

According to her Secret Origins issue, Bea was not a famous Brazilian entertainer -- her boss Dom Diablo was only promoting her as that in order to trick the Wayne Foundation out of extra cash when he was selling his club to them. She didn't get "bored" as an entertainer, but was fired after revealing to WF representatives that she was a nobody and Diablo was scamming them.

Was all of that later changed?

I got the info from a guy who had a massive site for the chick. Plus he sent me the scans of her giving up her career. Bea's origins are confusing though as the Crisis ripped them to shreds. I'll have a look see.
