Over five billion years ago, the planet Vuldar housed a heroic warrior race who defended their planet and quadrant of space against the dominating factors of evil that were the race known as the Tormocks. The Tormocks leader was a sadist called Bronkk. Forming alliances with other races, the Tormocks managed to successfully conquer Vuldar and their drones, the Kraggz, captured most of the women. The remaining Vuldarians led a nomadic lifestyle of travelling through other quadrants of space, trading their advanced science for the genetic material of each culture's greatest warriors. Adding this material to the Vuldarian bloodline, the Vuldarians hoped to endow themselves with enough powers to defeat the Tormocks. They would also try to prepare the planets they visited for the inevitable arrival of the Tormocks. Despite their best efforts, the race was still facing extinction.

Centuries ago the Vuldarians' travels brought them to Earth where they settled in the Nabba Jungle. They found that it was possible for them to interbreed with the humans, securing the Vuldarian bloodline's continued existence. The local jungle dwellers looked on the Vuldarians as gods and offered women to them. The first tryst was cursed by the witch doctor Muddakka, who made the process fatal for the woman and the resulting child became the monster known as the Dementor.

These events were just a prelude to a child's birth in Baltimore. Guy Gardner was born into an extremely rough childhood. His father was an abusive, alcoholic whose only kind feelings were towards Guy's brother, Mace. Mace excelled at school, particularly in football. Guy's mother ignored her husband's abusive behaviour and so Guy was left to search for his heroes. He found one in the comic book hero General Glory. Guy was so enthralled by the general that he had his hair cut into the distinctive bowl style of the General's sidekick, Ernie. Despite his father's treatment of him, Guy still craved the old man's attention. Guy soon learnt that Mace could do no wrong in his father's eyes as he opted out of attending college and instead joined the Baltimore Police Academy. Guy decided at sixteen to become the complete opposite of his brother. Guy was frequently getting in trouble with the law and was constantly being taken to juvenile hall. Nothing changed his attitude until he was caught on his eighteenth birthday trying to break into a car. The police recognised him and took him to Mace on a local football field. Mace told Guy he'd gone too far and responded to Guy's wisecrack with violence. However, rather than enjoying beating Guy as his father did, Mace was trying to straighten Guy out and gave him some money to help him find a real job. Guy enrolled in college, where one of his class mates was John Henry Irons, the man who went on to become the hero Steel. Guy paid his own way, earning plaudits with the football team and a solid grade in his undergraduate studies. None of this was noticed by his parents though who were still enamoured by Mace. Guy was also involved in the big college ball game and scored the winning touchdown.

Guy expected to return home to a hero's welcome but was greeted by no one at the airport. Mace had been shot five times and had severed his spine. The Internal Affairs Division discovered that Mace had been involved in shaking down drug peddlers and had been shot out of retaliation for the thousands of dollars he was making each week. Shortly after Mace appeared to drown himself in a river which led to Guy's father dying soon after. Left alone, Guy finished college with degrees in Psychology and Education. Drafted by Cleveland to play in the pros, Guy injured his knee in mini camp and proceeded to tear up the weight room. Guy realised he needed to channel this anger if he wanted to have a future and so he became a social worker, counselling prisoners. Guy's life was about to take a drastic change.

Abin Sur was a fabled member of the Green Lantern Corps but was mortally wounded whilst battling a creature known as Legion. Crashing in the Sierra Madres mountain range his ring fulfilled its last orders of finding a worthy successor two men were found, Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner. The ring chose to bring Hal to the ring as he was closer to Sur. Prior to this appointment, Jordan had been involved in an automobile accident whilst driving under the influence of alcohol. Realising the responsibility that the ring carried, Jordan chose to plead guilty to the charges laid at him, leading to him being sentenced to a ninety day sentence in a state correctional facility. Following an incident where Hal was suspected of murdering his cell mate, Guy was assigned as his caseworker. Neither man knew of how they had both been chosen for the post of Green Lantern, Guy did not even realise the ring existed. However, Jordan continued to his training as a Green Lantern by late night visits from his mentor, Sinestro. The prisoners soon found out about Jordan's power ring and a riot ensued in which Guy was taken prisoner. However, the ring leader was unable to finish his riot as Jordan was nowhere to be found. (in fact he was travelling off world with Sinestro and had been delayed.) Jordan returned with Sinestro in tow. Jordan surrendered his ring in exchange for Guy's life and Sinestro won the ring back. Guy attacked the defeated inmate until he was pulled off by Jordan. Wiping everyone's memories Jordan returned to serve out the reminder of his sentence. Upon leaving he spoke to Guy, who had decided to quit his job as he felt it brought out his aggressive nature. Hal later learned that Guy had been chosen to be Green Lantern and witnessed through a simulation that Guy would have contracted a space plague and died, resulting in Hal's appointment anyway. Hal returned to Earth to see Guy but left him unaware of his status as his alternate.

Guy's next job found him working as a physical education teacher, bringing out Guy's best qualities as he taught sport to children with special educational needs. Guy took his students on a two month field trip across country. Their journey was cut short by an earthquake. As the students exited the bus one of them became trapped in the ruins of a canyon bridge. Unable to coax her to safety, Guy reached out for the girl but his weight caused the school bus to hit him in the back and the two plummeted until they were saved by Green Lantern. Guy was taken to hospital where he was bed ridden for several months. During this time John Stewart was chosen as a replacement alternate and served as Earth's Green Lantern with some success. When Guy was walking again he returned to Baltimore. At a carnival he met fortune teller Kari Limbo, who told Guy that he would be heir to a grandeur involving the colour green. She also said he had an iron will, strict moral ethics and a deep line of fate. He would also be the last of a great tradition. While he didn't place much credibility in Kari's words, Guy asked her on a date and the two quickly fell in love. One afternoon in a park Guy was ready to propose to Kari only a trio of heroes to appear inexplicably. Visions from the future, the heroes had been flung through time by the villain Extant. Amongst the heroes was a future version of Guy. The close proximity of the two caused the future Guy's body to uncontrollably morph and strike out at those around him. Hal Jordan confronted the future Guy but the heroes were soon pulled back into the future. Guy and Kari eventually became engaged and relocated to St Louis where Kari's shop was. The couple were visited by Jordan who revealed his secret identity and Guy's position as alternate Green Lantern. Jordan asked Guy to fill in for him on Earth while he returned to Oa to carry out repairs on his power ring. Jordan gave Guy a new power ring and Guy found that he already possessed some knowledge of its workings due to mental implants from the Guardians of the Universe. Jordan told Guy the location of his power battery which was in Oliver Queen's apartment. Queen was also the vigilante known as the Green Arrow.

In Star City, Queen had a vision of the battery exploding and vaporising the Green Lantern using it. Concerned by this vision, Queen decided not to tell Guy for fear of unnerving the rookie. Awaiting Jordan's return Queen fought alongside Guy against the floating eyes of Professor Ojo. Meanwhile Jordan discovered that the fault lay not with his ting but with the battery itself. Issued with a new battery, Jordan was warned of possible time distortions from the other battery. He was told to destroy the damaged battery on his return to Earth. Guy enjoyed being Green Lantern and after helping Queen he returned to the apartment in order to recharge his battery. Jordan arrived on Earth and was told by Queen about his vision. Tearing down Queen's bedroom wall, Jordan was too late to reach Guy before he touched the battery. In a blinding flash Guy was torn apart by emerald energy with nothing remaining. Jordan told Kari of Guy's fate and after her initial anger, Kari moved in with Black Canary, assisting both her and Jordan with her psychic abilities. Soon Kari fell in love with Jordan and proposed to him after he nearly died and Jordan accepted.

Meanwhile, Guy was not dead as it had seemed. Rather he had been thrown into another dimension. Guy was plagued not only by the disorientation and confusion of drifiting through another dimension but also by the glimpses he received of his fiancée falling in love with Jordan. On the day of Kari and Jordan's wedding Kari had a vision of someone near to her being in agony. Drawing a symbol in a trance, Kari learned that it represented the other dimension known as the Phantom Zone. Superman investigated the mystery and was pulled into the Zone by a tendril of emerald energy. Kari got to the altar but fainted after being overcome by visions of Guy being killed by the exploding battery. Kari realised that she had never stopped loving Guy and called off the wedding. In the Phantom Zone, Superman was joined by Jordan and the two were assaulted by power ring generated objects. Jordan came face to face with Guy who wanted the Green Lantern dead. Feeling that Jordan had stolen Kari from him, Guy used wraith like prisoners in the Phantom Zone to fight the two heroes, forcing them to retreat. Jordan told Kari that Guy was still alive and Kari told him it would be unfair for the two to wed with her first love still being alive. Guy had in fact been pulled to Qward, the antimatter world, by Sinestro who had turned rogue against the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. Sinestro was using his influence to fuel Guy's rage and it was he who fought Superman and Jordan through Guy's body. Jordan did rescue Guy eventually but it was almost too late. Guy's psyche had been severely damaged and there was little chance of recovery. Being placed in hospital, Guy was tended to by Kari whilst Jordan left to battle Sinestro. Guy remained in a vegetative state for many years. Hospital staff noticed unusual alpha waves in Guy's brain but could not discover the cause. Unbeknownst to them and even Guy himself, he had been pulled into a nether region by a Vuldarian altered demon called the Dementor. Stuck in this "Comaville" Guy could still feel the inner call from the Green Lantern Corps to battle against Krona, one of the Corps' deadliest foes. Following the battle with Krona, Jordan retired from the Corps to pursue a regular life. John Stewart was appointed Green Lantern in his place and he visited Guy often, feeling a connection between their experiences as reserve Green Lanterns.

During a crisis that threatened all of reality, a splinter group of Guardians formed a new Main power battery with their energy. These Guardians planned a newer, smaller Corps. They would use Green Lanterns specifically picked to fight the crisis and then restore order to the stars. Guy was the first to be chosen for this new Corps. The Guardians used their immense power to awaken Guy from his coma in a matter of days. Guy left the hospital to find the power that he had been denied for so long. Travelling to Abin Sur's crash site, Guy pulled the remains of the burial site to pieces until Jordan arrived to visit his predecessor's grave. A blinding emerald glow shone from the burial site, signifying the entrance of a Guardian who had come to award a power ring to Guy! Explaining how his comrades had awakened Guy, the Guardian took Guy to Oa to meet the other renegade Guardians. Jordan had hitched a ride with the two but had fallen on the planet's surface, a long way from its central Citadel. Jordan discovered that the Guardians had given up fighting the anti matter crisis and left Jordan without a ring. Guy was angered at his treatment by the Guardians but they explained that he was one of 3600 alternates that they had no authorised responsibility to. Guy was given a new uniform that was customised to reflect the trio of robots that the Guardians had been using. His ring and battery was powered by the life energy of the six Guardians. Plans to enlist more to aid Guy were shattered when a wave of antimatter killed all but one of the splinter Guardians. Guy pledged his allegiance to the remaining Guardian and returned to Earth.

Guy keyed in on precise emanations that happened whilst time was warping back over itself and located the villain, The Shark. Guy was quickly defeated as the Shark left to find Jordan. Jordan had met up with John Stewart and revealed his identity to him. Jordan wished to warn Stewart of Guy's renegade status. The two were attacked by the Shark and John put Hal in an energy bubble to keep him safe, sending the bubble into space. Guy soon arrived and freed the Shark and the two fought Stewart and made their escape as Guy persuaded the Shark to join his strike force. Stewart could not locate Hal in the bubble he left him in or Guy who had ordered his ring to counter any tracking attempts that Stewart made. Jordan had been taken to Oa by the Guardian who gave Guy his ring. The Guardian wanted Jordan to follow in Guy's mission. Jordan felt that Guy was an unsuitable choice due to the mental in-balance that his coma had caused. The Guardian argued that it would actually help Guy carry out his mission as it would remove any doubts he had about assaulting Qward.

Guy and the Shark continued to recruit people to their strike force, freeing Hector Hammond, Sonar, Throttle and Blindside. Hammond was apprehended before he could take over Guy's strike force and Guy then aimed to free Goldface from prison. Met by John Stewart and his wife, Katma Tui, Guy's strike force engaged the two Lanterns until they were ordered to stand down by Jordan. Guy and Jordan travelled to Qward with the strike force to attack the moon. As they left Sinestro arrived and told Stewart and Katma Tui of the error of Guy's mission. Preparing for their assault, Guy small army were warned that attacking Jordan would be meant with the death penalty. Jordan thanked Guy for finally becoming a Green Lantern and Guy responded by informing Jordan, he still thought he was a jerk. The group fought the Qwardian weaponers but Jordan refused to kill the weaponers and tried to leave for positive space. Guy stopped him and forcefully took the power ring from Hal, leaving him for dead. Jordan was rescued by the Corps and they returned to fight both Guy's team and the Qwardians. Guy was intent on destroying the home planet that had caused given birth to the creature who caused the crisis. Guy broke away from the fight and was about to destroy the planet when he was stopped by Stewart and Jordan. Locked in a battle of wills against Stewart, Guy fell and the crisis was resolved by reality's other heroes. It turned out that had Guy of destroyed Qward he would have condemned the rest of the universe. Guy's strike force realised they had been led incorrectly and vowed future vengeance on Guy. Guy then fled and joined forces with Star Sapphire and Hector Hammond as the Triumvirate of Terror. After failing to beat Jordan, Guy was brought to Oa for judgement. Guy was allowed to keep his power ring provided he underwent training on the Guardians' home world of Maltus. Reluctantly he agreed. Guy was angered at the conditions on the planet as he was assigned menial tasks and when eh was called into action was labelled as being too violent in defending Maltus. Guy tried to escape Maltus and after failing once he took advantage of the sulphur storms to cover his escape.

On Earth, Guy set himself up as the leader of the Green Lantern Corps of Earth. This angered his fellow Lanterns and Guy attacked them. After this Guy was captured by the guards from Maltus and was about to be stripped of his ring when Jordan persuaded the guards to allow him to take responsibility of Guy. Jordan felt Guy would learn to settle into society better on his home world. Kilowog, one of the Earth based Green Lanterns, objected to Guy being allowed to possess a ring and so left the group. Guy was soon swept up in the anti-super-hero feeling that was caused by Apokoliptan invader, Glorious Godfrey. The public were especially distrustful of the former rogue Lantern. Eventually Godfrey was defeated and Guy was amongst the heroes who caused his defeat. Following this the Justice League reformed with Guy serving as a member. Guy saw himself as the team's leader but no one else agreed with him. Guy made a bad impression on just about everyone within the team, especially Batman, although the Bat appeared to be one of the few people able to keep Guy in line. Guy served on the JLA, through to its becoming the JLI but was always sore about not being the elected leader of the team. At one point he chose to duel with Batman for the leadership of the team. Removing his ring, Guy squared up to the Dark Knight only to be floored with one punch. Trying to locate his ring afterwards, Guy hit his head on the conference table and developed a split personality. At times he was a sexist, obnoxious, right wing egotist and then he would change to a courteous, thoughtful and peace loving man. Before this happened, Guy was kidnapped by an alien race called the Draals. The Draals had captured a number of Green Lanterns and were using their rings to create duplicates of them. Guy fought his clone, named Joseph, but Joseph managed to escape Guy and the Draal ship, travelling to Earth. On Earth Joseph assumed Guy's life and on his first mission with the JLA, executed an alien villain. Months later Guy returned to find Joseph and defeated him, sending him into space as a prisoner of the Green Lantern Corps. During this time Guy also lost his power ring when Hal crushed it in a fit of rage. Guy then went on a search for Sinestro's lost power ring and using it he adopted a new costume and dropped his codename. Guy continued serving on the JLA and stood against Doomsday despite receiving massive facial injuries. Guy then fought a villain called Militia who turned out to be his long lost brother Mace. However, whilst fighting him his ring started to fail due to Hal assaulting the power battery on Oa.

Guy travelled to Oa to find the massacre that Jordan had left in his wake. Along with a number of other heroes, Guy tried to take Jordan down. Guy was the last to fall as Jordan took his power ring and Guy's eye. Guy had also found love again within the JLA. His team mate Ice was able to see the sweet natured and good intentioned side of Guy and the two had a very innocent relationship. However, Guy's loss of his ring and his eye was worsened as he returned to Earth to lose Ice against the Overmaster when she sacrificed her life. Guy was distraught and had a brief affair with Ice's best friend Fire. This was only a shallow physical attraction though which was soon ended.

Guy then discovered that he was still destined to be a super-hero. Searching for power, Guy discovered that he was descended from the Vuldarian race and found he could morph his body into any form of weaponry he imagined. Guy assumed the codename Warrior and opened a bar called Warriors. Guy continued to adventure and tried for membership in the new JLA only to be rejected to his chagrin. He was called upon during the Imperiex crisis and was severely injured in eastern Europe. Guy became bonded to an Imperiex probe and the probe was the destroyed by General Zod. Guy appeared to have died but in fact the explosion had opened up a portal to The Gorge, a small pocket of Hell. Guy was stuck in The Gorge and soon became its ruler. Guy managed to trick Superman and the villain Kancer into entering The Gorge and Guy manipulated Kancer into ruling the realm in his place. Leaving with Superman, the heroes emerged in Aruba, where Guy told Superman how displeased he was that everyone had left him behind.

Guy's power derive from his Vuldarian heritage. He possesses immense strength and durability as well as having the ability to change any part of his body into any weapon he imagines. Guy can use this power to fly, fire concussive blasts, construct razor sharp blades or nuclear strength explosions. Guy's yellow power ring gave him the ability to construct any shape he imagined. Whilst the ring wasn't as powerful as his Green Lantern one, it had a longer charge and no yellow weakness. Guy's Green Lantern power ring could do virtually anything he willed it to, though it would not kill, work on yellow things and had a 24 hour charge. Guy's nature in battle is an extremely violent one and he is not the greatest strategist. He is also famous for having a glass jaw and being a poor hand to hand combatant.

 i love them all. they are all too cute. martian ponnyhunter. :D

a very very long and extra-detailed bio, btw. i think you've done a good job on many of the bios, but this one was far too long for me to manage to read it all. i can't even stare the whole page without my attention distracted. :p anyways, an example might be; why do we need to know that guy have seen his older brother smoking a pot and thought his father would be very disappointed if he knew that? the further info does not establish any significance, or i couldn't catch it...

:kyle: -> and there is no guy gardner simlie, non plus!

yeah sorry. i get carried away sometimes and don't edit stuff as much as i should.but hey, the guy's the most important hero in the DCU :D and he has been round for ages. Guy's one of the only people to not have a retconned past after Crisis.

What I want to know is why Abin Sur was in a jet in the first place.

might chop some bits then.

more worrying though is the fact that robb uses the my little ponies forums. now i want to go back and put a my little pony attatchment to all the bios...
