Assistant District Attorney Richard Raleigh became frustrated by the many criminals who would escape from justice. Channeling that frustration, Richard choose to protect his home of Superior City by becoming a costumed crimefighter. Utilizing an army of trained bees and his specially designed Stinger Gun, he dubbed himself the 'Red Bee'. In one of his earliest adventures, Richard made a name for himself by preventing a group of corrupt politicians from profiting at the expense of several cities, which had been affected by a devastating plague.

Throughout the early 1940s, the Red Bee continued battling criminals and Nazi saboteurs, including one adventure he shared with Ted Knight, the first Starman. When President Roosevelt mobilized the costumed crimefighters of America into the All-Star Squadron, Richard answered the call.

In the early hours of Februrary 23, 1942, Richard attended the first full meeting of the Squadron at their new headquarters, the Perisphere. That gathering was interrupted by the appearance of Uncle Sam, the fighting spirit of America, who brought news of a Japanese plot to invade the nation. Several heroes, including Richard, volunteered to assist Uncle Sam in turning back the enemy forces. They dubbed themselves the 'Freedom Fighters'.

During the ensuing battle, Richard went missing after an accidental explosion rendered the other Freedom Fighters unconscious. The other members of the team were captured by the Nazi superman known as Baron Blitzkrieg, who sought to torture them for information. The Red Bee sprang up, and attacked the Baron single-handedly, giving the others time to formulate their escape. However, the Baron overwhelmed Richard and shattered his spine, killing him instantly.

Decades later, Richard would reappear as a spirit, during a dinner meant to educate Jack Knight, grown son of Ted Knight, on heroism. Throughout the meal, Richard proved to be rude and obnoxious, before finally admitting to his long-harbored jealousy of the other assembled heroes. He lamented the unfairness of life, dying before having the opportunity to prove himself as a crimefighter. He was angry at being perceived as a joke, but remembered that Ted Knight, who had been vastly more powerful than him, treated him as an equal. Richard raised a toast to Ted Knight, and to his son Jack, before fading away again.

The Red Bee had no special powers, relying instead on his fighting skills and trained bees to combat foes. For a time, he only used two trained bees, but later carried an entire swarm of bees inside of a specially designed belt buckle.

killer bees. You gotta love that for a gimmick.

Not sure but i've a feeling that the Red Bee also talked to Sand in the JSA when Sand was getting all his prophetic visions and such. Might be JSA secret Files or it might be early issues. Zeb might know.
