First Appearance: Detective Comics # 184
Known Allies: Blockbuster, Killer Moth
Major Enemies: Batman, Batgirl I (Oracle II), Black Canary, Nightwing, Robin III
Height: 5'11''
Weight: 167 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: None
From a young age, Garfield Lynns was fascinated by fire. That’s why he became a Hollywood special effects wizard; to work with the explosives and the fire. But when his effects got too dangerous, Lynns was fired. Deciding to take his revenge, he burned the set, and realized this was how he could make his living. Using his knowledge of effects, Lynns made a costume and became Firefly, arsonist for hire.
Initially, Lynns partnered with the Killer Moth, and they began working arson for the mobs in Gotham. In doing this, they ran afoul of Batgirl and Black Canary, and Lynns developed a personal grudge against them. He was eventually taken down by the two, and he was shipped off to Blackgate Penitentiary, where he remained for a time.
During the Arkham breakout orchestrated by Bane, Firefly was set free and began burning down Gotham. Batman recaptured him, but he began the pattern of escapes and recaptures that so many of Gotham’s villains seem to have. For a time he returned to arson for hire, working for Black Mask, and then returned to simply fire for pleasure. After an escape during the Cataclysm, he was caught in one of his own fires and was saved by Nightwing and Robin, but he received major burns all over his body, disfiguring him.
Most recently, Firefly was hired by Blockbuster in his campaign to destroy Nightwing. Firefly was paid to start a fire at the Haley Circus, which he did, burning down the big top and becoming responsible for multiple deaths. Nightwing could not stop him, and he escaped and remains at large.
Firefly's costume is perfectly suited to his pyromania. His primary weapon is a large flamethrower. The costume enables limited flight, and is designed to allow for gliding on the currents of hot air.
