<B>Powers:</B> Sauron has the ability to drain the life force from living victims into his body. He also has the ability to hypnotize victims by making eye contact with them and thereby induce hallucinations. His form resembles a large crested pterodactyl extinct except in the Savage Land, but unlike true pterodactyls, Sauron has a toothed beak and humanoid build, with legs as long as a human being.

In our reality, Karl Lykos found that when he used his superhuman ability to siphoned energy from a mutant, the energy triggered a metamorphosis into a creature that resembled a half-humanoid pteranodon, who retained his human intelligence and ability to speak. However, the transformation distorted Lykos' personality, turning him evil. Hence, Lykos took the name Sauron, after the arch villain of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, but would later revert to human form. Years later, however, the mutant known as the Toad captured Lykos and transformed him back into Sauron who then joined the Toad's new version of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Since then Sauron has battled the X-Men and other mutant teams on several occasions. In his current condition Sauron appears to be incapable of reverting to human form, even when his energies are depleted.

Lykos was one of many unwilling participants in the Skrull's Games up until their evacuation of Earth because of the arrival of Terrax. While the newly emancipated gladiators were getting their first taste of freedom, they found Terrax terrorizing their people and launched an attack the Herald of Galactus. Because we do not see Sauron after this, it is possible that he was slain.

Sauron is one of many in the legion of infected Vi-Locks that dominate Earth. He is dispatched to deal with the world threat that Mimic poses after the Avengers alert the Vi-Locks of their nuclear plans to destroy the Earth.
