Mariko Yashida was one of the few Japanese survivors when Apocalypse attacked her country. She is also a high-ranking member of the Eurasian High Council. After the Sentinels were sent to evacuate human refugees from America, Mariko took part in a Council meeting. When the other Councils members decided on a full nuclear strike, Mariko objected to this. Brian Braddock dismissed her words as "whining". The next day after the Sentinels returned, Mariko caught up with Weapon X, whom her father had done buisness with when she was a teenager. Like Weapon X's love Jean Grey, Mariko voiced her disagreement with the upcoming nuclear bombardment. She also was concerned with Braddock's obsession with this war between humans and mutants. When an airship was hijacked by Donald Pierce, Mariko sent Weapon X to try and stop them with colliding with the ship that had the guidance system. Mariko stopped Brian Braddock from firing on the ship with Weapon X in it, and watched his unsuccessful attempt to stop Pierce.
Mariko was with the Human High Council as it launched its fleet against America.
