Real Name: Gerald O'Higgins

Over twenty years ago, O'Higgins was the most feared-freedom fighter in Northern Ireland, earning money for the cause be performing assassinations for criminal organizations in the United States. O'Higgins' greatest asset was his strong believe in his cause, which made him a fearless and highly lethal killer.

However, one night in Belfast, O'Higgins lost his belief and his faith in the cause. Running afoul of the vigilante known as the Punisher, and fled to the criminal "paradise" known as Erewhon. When the Erewhon leadership attempted to use the X-Men's Wolverine to lure the Punisher into the city, O'Higgins, now calling himself the Atheist, volunteered to eliminate the vigilante, having once again found a cause he could believe in.
