Nothing is known of the past of the woman known as Phantazia before she was recruited by the acrobatic mutant named the Toad into a new incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. During the Brotherhood's clash with the mutant strikeforce known as X-Force, Phantazia disrupted the blast field of the young mutant named Cannonball, allowing her teammate Sauron to seemingly kill him.

Phantazia was later approached by the powerful mutant Exodus, serving as the avatar for the self-styled master of magnetism Magneto, who gave Phantazia the opportunity to join the ranks of mutants Magneto was assembling on his orbiting base Avalon. Phantazia reluctantly rejected the offer, choosing instead to remain with her Brotherhood teammates. The team later disbanded and Phantazia wasn't heard of in a long time.

She is currently one of the few people capable of remembering the House of M, the reality altered by the deranged Scarlet Witch. Phantazia didn't cope well with her memories and is now held in a padded cell. Phantazia was depowered during the M-Day and the energies that she used to control were then drawn to the Collective.

Phantazia was a mutant with the superhuman ability to project a bio-electric field that disrupts communications, machinery, senses, neural systems, and special abilities for up to ten minutes at a time. This power could also be used to cloak instead of disrupt, allowing Phantazia to make herself and her allies invisible to electronic detectors and human senses. Phantazia could also transform parts or all of her body into bio-electricity.

Phantazia's electromagnetic harmonics also allowed her to levitate, as well as granted her the ability to detect electronic wavelengths, from minor fluctuations to disruptions in the Earth's electromagnetic field.

Phantazia first appeared on the cover of X-Force #5, but did not appear in text until #6. Her electromagnetic harmonics disrupt special abilities in general, allow her to levitate, and can also cloak instead of disrupting: she can make herself and her allies invisible to electronic detectors and human senses as well. Speculation abounds that she actually converts her body partily into energy while using her powers.

I got the impression from Exodus' reaction to her in X-Men Unlimited #2 that she had some undisclosed connection to Magneto.

I've noticed that the comics she was in all imply that she was smart. Blob calls her "Miss PhD," which in comic-speak means she probably really does have a doctorate. In her X-Men Unlimited appearance, she reads a book on microbiology and talks about how her intellect is an asset. She also seems to speak with the best articulation of the entire Brotherhood. So what's she doing alongside the Blob?

Well, the text she was reading was astrophysics, but your point is made

Nobody knows why she joined Toad's Brotherhood. I'd like to see more about her, preferably written by Fabian Nicieza, because I assume he had a direction he wanted to take her in (since he was the one responsible for the "Ms PhD" and intellectual references and the hinted link to Magneto).

That would explain why Phantazia seemed to take the offer so seriously. I really wish they'd explained why Exodus affected her to the extent he did.

Personally, the big thing I wonder about is why she actually turned him down. That would have been her ticket out of the Brotherhood if she'd disliked being there, and the offer was supposed to be an honour. So why'd she say no?

I think the white hair its part of her mask, maybe thats why in X-Men Unlimited she appear with blond hair.

To be honest, I think she can change her appearance at will (though this is supposition). We've also seen her with reddish hair, and the texture of it never seems to look the same. Nor does what we see of her face look much like her face without the mask...and then of course, there's the whole arms/no arms thing. When Empyrean was disrupting everyone's powers, she started fritzing and looking like she was changing into energy or disappearing, and we know she sometimes leaks energy and constantly emits an EM field. It's long been my theory that her natural state is some kind of energy form, and she chooses what she looks like when she's solid and human.

i wonder what she's up to now. for a while there i thought that she had joined the Acolytes under the name 'Static.' i hope not because i like the name Phantazia and her odd appearance. i hadn't guessed at a connection to Magneto (that would explain the white hair j/k). that guy must really get around.
