Warp Savant
created by Joe Casey and Ian Churchill

Warp SavantReal Name: Unrevealed
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men #394 (June 2001)

Warp Savant is a mutant who, to celebrate his eighteenth birthday, decided to attack the U.S. Army base at Cape Citadel - the same base that Magneto attacked during his first clash with the X-Men. When the X-Men attempted to stop him, Warp Savant teleported Wolverine and Jean Grey into his own psyche.

Warp Savant was stopped by Archangel when he shot him with an electro-magnetic pulse weapon that temporarily shut down his mutant powers. After Wolverine and Jean were freed from his mind, Warp Savant used his powers on himself, presumably killing himself. However, Warp Savant's final fate remains unknown.

Uncanny X-Men (1963) #394

Biography text provided by Nemesis.

I loved this guy, the best character Casey thought up while he was on Uncanny. Not to mention very inventive powers.

He was so crazy

I thought Warp was pretty cool too. An irresponsable kid with too much power in his hands, and so bored an d warped that he would want to emulate such a messed up thing as a terrorist attack.

Though i've always wondered: how the heck do you teleport into your own brain?

He was more then just bored. The message Casey was trying to get across with Warp was one of influence of the media on youth. It's like all those ultra-thin cover girls and the teenaged females who think they have to look like that to be beautiful.

In the Marvel universe, the media presentation of mutants is one of negativity. They're evil. Warp felt that as a mutant he needed to live up to that image. It was great because it had never been done in the X-Men before.

Personally, I would really like Warp to return. I can't fathom why anyone would think he killed himself from that story.

i think in a way, he did. i dont think well see him again in these pages. he wasnt even mentioned after 394 once. question, did his brain just create space, or was there some otherly dimension inside his head. or was it something to do with him thinking about an environment and it happening?

It's hard to say. It looked as if Warp Savant would basically teleport matter inside his own conscience. After all, the place Logan and Jean were teleported into was heavily governed by Warp's own subconscious, especially when the X-Men managed to make their way out of the battlefield and into the repressed area of Warp's own mind, where images of a monster in the closet or under the bed were very present.

As for the suicide bit, it may have been an actual death as much as it might have not been. It depends on any other writer who would like to write the character.

Warp was a rather unique character to be sure, when they first mentioned his abilities i laughed, he reminded me of a character that i thought up about a year before, although neither male nor the whole tattooed, pierced thing that he had going on. But the basic idea was that items could be stored as mental signatures that could be recalled from the person's mind at will. Although Warp was basically the same thing, I actually really enjoied the strange way things kinda "bubbled" apart instead of dissapearing. To me the abilitiy was a kind of combination of telepathy and telekinesis, in the way of utilizing brain "space" i guess you can say and the manipulization of matter through telekinesis, maybe even to the point of tranfiguring the matter into engery that is stored in the sinapses till recalled and reformed into matter again, something of a Einstineal concept. But as for Warp, I belive that he created something of a loop from his loophole escape. His body is contained within his mind, which is contained within his body. kinda like a genie being in the bottle when the bottle is being held in his hand, the question is, will he figure out to pull the cork to let himself out?

My interpretation of Warp's powers were that he was pulling things physically into a sort of astral plane pocket inside his head. Everything there was governed by a combination of his subconcious and personal will.

And really, Warp didn't have a personality that loans itself to suicide.

I'd like to see this guy again real soon. Too bad Casey had to leave so early, I was one of the people that really enjoyed his entire run.
