Real Name: Thomas Samuel Eamon CassidyKnown Aliases: Barrington, Thomas Small, The Viper First Appearance: X-Men (1st series) #99 Known Relatives: Theresa Cassidy (Siryn, cousin), Sean Cassidy (Banshee, cousin) Group Affiliation: Brotherhood of Mutants III Major Enemies: Deadpool, Banshee, X-Men Known Allies: Juggernaut Powers: Energy blasts Black Tom Cassidy is the older cousin of Banshee. He has the mutant ability to fire blasts of energy but requires wood to focus it, explaining why he is often seen carrying a wooden shillelagh. Years ago, while his cousin Sean was away on a mission for Interpol, Tom took custody of Sean's daughter, Theresa, when her mother, Maeve, whom Tom had always loved, died during a bombing. Tom kept Theresa's existence a secret from Sean, and raised Theresa as his own. Eventually, due to Tom's criminal activities, Theresa was taken from him, and father and daughter were reunited. Tom has always blamed his cousin for taking away his one chance at a family. Long-time friend and partner-in-crime of Professor X's older stepbrother, the Juggernaut, Black Tom bombed the World Trade Centre. During that incident, he and the Juggernaut clashed with X-Force, and Tom was severely injured by Cable. He was captured by Deadpool, and taken to Tolliver who had Tom implanted with a wood virus that repaired the damaged parts of his body and also allowed him to conduct his power directly. He then clashed with Deadpool once more in an attempt to cure himself of the wood virus by slicing off Deadpool's hand and grafting it onto his own body so as to use Deadpool's healing factor to cure his condition. Later, as the wood virus took complete control of his body, he attempted to steal the children of Generation X away from Banshee, but was seemingly slain by Penance. Black Tom somehow managed to survive and returned with no trace of the wood virus to help his long-time friend the Juggernaut to recover the Ruby of Cyttorak from a cult who had somehow removed the gem, thus draining the Juggernaut of his strength. Tom later teamed up with the Juggernaut once more when they were hired by Ulysses to attack the X-Men's leader, Cyclops. The Juggernaut later found Black Tom living in a hole -- literally -- in Scotland. In order for them to have a hideout, the Juggernaut bought a Scottish castle that they called Cassidy Keep, after the family castle in Ireland. There Black Tom mutated further into a plant-like creature. He captured some people and drained their life-forces. The Juggernaut called his stepbrother's hotline to ask for help. Xavier didn't know who made the call, but sent Archangel's team. Black Tom captured and began to drain the life forces of most of that X-Men team as well as the Juggernaut. The X-Men and the Juggernaut were able to free themselves and defeat Black Tom. After destroying the island, he was presumed dead. Black Tom later surfaced again, leaving a face-like image on a tree at the Xavier Institute. Juggernaut contacted him and pretended to ally himself with the New Brotherhood of Mutants, whom Black Tom had joined. Juggernaut's ruse was discovered, though, when Black Tom brutally murdered Samuel "Squidboy" Paré. Juggernaut went into a rage, and Black Tom subdued him before setting off to destroy the Institute. There, the X-Men battled the New Brotherhood of Mutants. The fight ended when Xorn II sucked all the members of the Brotherhood, including Black Tom, into his head. The Brotherhood of Mutants ended up in Mojoworld, where they sold Nocturne and Juggernaut to Mojo for cash and such. During House of M, Black Tom was one of Callisto's Marauders, who worked for Lord Magneto. Black Tom showed up in a wooden, tree-like form, but when struck by Psylocke's psychic katana, he started to turn back into human form. Black Tom is back on Earth and has lost his secondary leafy mutation during the M-Day. He was working with Black Air when he tried to kill the members of the new Excalibur team, even the Juggernaut, but succeeded in killing only Dazzler, who came back to life again, for the second time since she came to England. After Black Air left Black Tom stranded, he took a young woman hostage. The Juggernaut talked him into turning himself in. Theresa is not his niece. Terry calls him "uncle" as a term of affection, but they're just cousins(first cousins once removed, second cousins...something like that).

I think his codename as a whole should be "Black Tom Cassidy".

Black Tom robbed a bank while the X-Men fought Juggernaut in UXM # 218. He was only mentioned in the issue, he wasn't seen.

But did he die? I'm pretty sure he merely brought the house down.
Well, the house and the entire island.

He also appeared in X-Men (v.2) #163-4. I'm not sure if you could count his appearance in #158 and #160.
Aso in a photograph in X-Force #26, if that counts.

New allies: Exodus, Sabretooth, Mammomax (all Brotherhood of Mutants V)
I refer to it as V counting The one with Xorn I (the Magneto Imposter), Esme, Toad, Basilisk, Ernst, No-Girl, Beak, Angel IV and Angel Babies as Brotherhood of Mutants IV |

I wouldn't consider Xorn II a major enemy any more than I'd consider Cable a major enemy (Cable must die, by the way, I hate him). Xorn II was involved, but he didn't have an agenda with Tom or vice versa.

LisaCharly, I'm interested in knowing why you like this character so much?

Black Tom's bio has been updated to include his return to human form and the evil he's been up to in "New Excalibur".
