Ben Grimm was the pilot for Reed Richards' trans-ship to evacuated human refugees from Apocalypse. A mutant sabotaged the ship and Richards and Johnny Storm gave their lives to save the others.

Years later Ben Grimm and Susan Storm were fighter pilots for the Human High Council. When word got out of Mikhail Rasputin's peace proposal, Ben nevered believed it. Ben and Sue joined the team to meet with Mikhail, but he had them taken and put into his Upscale Programs. The team were able to escape, and Ben and Sue took Victor Von Doom and Donald Blake to the High Council members. When Mikhail unleashed his forces upon London's population, Ben tried to save a lost child. On his way back to Mikhail's ship, which was just taken over by the Council, Ben was shot by Mikhail's forces. Just when he got the kid to the ship, Ben died from his wounds.
