I was just thinking a lot about the old All New, All Deadly X-men.
For those who never read it, one of the Prime Sentinels tried to access Cerebro, and an error in a failsafe ended up dumping the Cerebro program into the Prime Sentinels nanotechnological body, and the merger created a sentient, living Cerebro. Because Charles was the mind it was most used to being with, it imitated him, even appearing has him for awhile, as well as organizing his own "X-men" based on versions of mutants he'd met over the years. Each "X-man" was like a composite of a bunch of other mutants... Does everyone know WHICH mutants that each was based on? Lemme take a shot at it... CRUX: Fire and Ice, that's easy. Fire, Sunfire, Ice, Iceman. I also thought that she looked physically a bit like Jubilee, and her mask looked... familiar... is it Destiny that it resembles or someone from the MLF? MERCURY: This one's fairly easy--he looks physically like Colossus, and even can armor up like him (sort of), but he has claw-fingers, and I'm not sure who that's based on. He has magnetic powers, too (Magneto/Polaris). His background is that he's a secret agent... Who's that based on? LANDSLIDE: Looks like Sabretooth and the Blob, with a little BEast mixed in. Am I detecting a little Wolverine in here too? Another one, really subtle--he has a section of hair that's white, AND he speaks with a heavy southern accent... Rogue! RAPTURE: Looks like Mystique (even has her skull jewelry) with wings like Archangel, a sword like... um... I dunno, at teh time, maybe Shatterstar? Not sure though. Did she have any other powers? GREY KING: Easy, first off, it's a combo Black King/White King. Second, red hair and telepathic powers? Jean Grey, easy. Ability to cancel out other powers? Either Leech or Wipeout. And then, he's an "old friend" in the memory playback, so I'm guessing Magneto or Banshee. CHAOS: "Daniel Dash" fired energy from one of his eyes (Cyclops) that radiated out in a "concentric circle" blast formation (Havok). He even makes mention of his love for his "brother." Also, his costume is almost like Havok's, but it's wrapped with bandages (Chamber). Finally, he's autistic (M). ANyone else remember these guys? Too bad they were never real people, they were cool characters.

After re-reading X-men # 39 yesterday (the one with Adam X, the X-treme finding and taking care of Grampa Summers), on the last panel we see the homage to Uncanny # 94.
It has someone watching Scott and Jean on a monitor. He on his turn is being watched by Sinister on a monitor. (yes, this time they did get the colors right )Now my question is, was it ever revealed who the first watcher was???

Some believe it's Gambit, some say it's Adam X, the X-treme. Ever since I read X-men # 39, I strongly believe it was intended to be Adam X....but that was the last appaerance of him IIRC.

I rememer reading on one of the other threads that Adam-X was seen last in the Silver Surfer comic, where it was revealed that he was the son of the deceased D'Ken, the Shi'ar emperor from the Phoenix storyline. I believe that it was intended for Adam-X to be the son of both D'Ken and Catherine Summers, making him the third brother, but this never actually made it to the x-books. Most of this is from the forum and not from my personal reading, so take it as you will.
Also, I would like to know who the person was that was spying on Jean and Scott in X-Men 39 too, Magik! I had forgotten about it completely. Does anybody know out there?

So, Erik the Red is a Shi'ar agent, yes? He pays Black Tom and Juggie to kill the X-men, brainwashed Lorna and Alex to kill the X-men, aged Magneto back to his prime, and sent Firelord after the Professor. But... awhile before... Erik the Red was... Scott's identity that he used while he was incognito. Hunh? I never read the original story with Erik the Red, just know that it was Cyclops in disguise, and when he runs into Erik with the new X-men, he says, "But you can't be Erik the Red! I was Erik the Red!" Anyone fill me in?

Scott took on the guise of Erik the Red in (Uncanny) X-Men #51-52, as part of the original Mesmero/Polaris/Magneto-that-turns-out-to-be-a-robot story. He used the identity to get in their good graces without them knowing he was an X-Man, and then he snuck the other X-Men in. It's a fairly ridiculous story for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that the whole point of having to sneak someone in was because the X-Men couldn't beat the Demi-Men (Mesmero's lackeys) in a straight up battle. Yet Scott alone, as Erik the Red, manages to fight them solo and do well enough to a) not get killed and b) prove himself of value to Mesmero and the Magneto-bot. It's one of those "only in the Silver Age" kinda stories (although the Magneto-bot should have tipped you to that!).
As for how the Shi'ar Erik took on the guise, I think he was already on Earth, somehow saw Scott's ruse and decided to adopt the same costume and codename (for whatever reason). This is the explanation I usually hear, but I can't remember ever seeing it in print, so take it for what it's worth. |

@ spiman1: The identity of Shaw's "stalker" was never revealed, but some say it was BlackHeart.
![]() I was really looking forward to the resolution of that mystery... ![]() @cypherlock: I loved the All-New, All-Deadly X-Men!! I was so dissapointed when we learned that they were "artificial", as they were really interesting... I always thought that the "Grey" part came from Jean-like powers (Phoenix manifestation) and costume. Maybe Mercury's secret agent part came from Logan. ![]() Rapture (great name, BTW) had Mystique's appearance, Warren's wings and Kurt's sword and religion... Xaos was so cool.

I love this thread and site , so many courteous, well-informed people.
Ok, next question.. (I wasnt gonna let y'all off that easy..) In New Xmen 27, a mutant called Threnody is introduced. Appraently, she discharges energy blasts when coming into contact with people who have LAegacy virus. Rogue asks sinister who set off Threnody's powers earlier and sinister says that is a mystery for another time. Do you think the staff considered Rogue/Iceman/ or Beast contracting the Legacy virus? Or was it someone else.? Thanks. |

I think they planned for that person to be Sinister himself, but then realized afterwards he wasn't a mutant, and " forgot " about it.....though Moira was infected as well later, and she wasn't a mutant.....at least, that we know...

I always thought Sinister had contracted the Legacy Virus, because Thren's powers were set off just before he arrived on the scene if I recall correctly. It would make sense, Sinister having been in closest in proximity to the virus when it was released into the air (other than his blad scientist lackey of course).

That's a great question, jignat, especially for all the possibly touching and deep stories we could have got with such a development with a main character like any of those.
Let's face it, as much as I loved Illyana, she wasn't a main character at the time...

There was that thing in X-Men: Declassified about Beast injecting himself with the Virus to motivate himself into finding a cure, but that wasn't true...as far as we knew.

How many main characters did actually die from the Legacy Virus? Not one. The only ones were villians, or B-characters. Maybe that's why that plot never really stood out as a classic....?

That's right, Magik. The only thing that came out of that storyline was Colossus "sacrifice"...

![]() How many years did he have that, anyway? He contracted it before AoA (was it in X-Men Annual 2...?) and finally died in like 1999 or so...that's like 6 or 7 years, right? Illyana last a few months (awww, sniff). |
