You know, for a guy who is under the weather, this is a pretty neat review, very thorough. (Although I think having a hissy fit about the logo is a bit much :p)

I hope you feel better soon! :clown:

This is exactly what I got from this issue. I thought it was great. The art is very expressive and I'm certainly looking forward to the next issue. I thought the way the narrative unfolded was very well done, and I certainly had no problems with the characterisation. I'm not familiar with Bishop though, so I won't mind if the series focuses on him a little.

Thanks for the link to the review, Erwin, glad you liked it overall.

I think you'll find in coming issues that David addresses your concerns with the story. As you noticed there was a lot introduced in this issue (which as you also pointed out is why it seems slow), and maybe some things didn't get fleshed out as much, due to space constraints. David packs a lot of what might seem like trivial elements at first, but as the story progresses you'll see just how tight a story he weaves from the most disparate of threads, and just how much he fleshes things out (if you get a chance to read strange embrace you'll get a good idea of how tight his storytelling is). It's good to see that a few of the reader's here are picking up on the details we are packing in the book.

Yardin's storytelling skills are very commendable. I suspect that he's had very extensive experience drawing black-and-white instead of color comics because of his design sense.
Thanks, but I've only drawn one comic that was left black and white, and that was a three page story. Everything else has been done with colour in mind.

With the involvement of Bishop, the series may eventually revolve around him and the series may turn out to be more aptly titled as Bishop instead of District X.
I'll just clarify that Bishop is one of the main characters, not the main character. Sure he'll have a lot more prominent role as the series progresses, but this is not a Bishop solo book. A lot of the background characters have just as important a role in driving the story (in this and future arcs) as the "lead" characters (even the characters from X-Men Unlimited #2 play a part in the story).

Anyway thanks all for picking up the book, if you're still sitting on the fence I hope you're at least willing to try the next issue before making up your mind.

Good to see you here David. Welcome to ComiX-Fan. Looking forward to seeing more of District X and congratulations on a great first issue. Always good to see a local boy do well

Good to hear that this book won't just be carried on Bishop's appearance. I think the premise of "flatscan" cops in Mutant Town is a very solid one that could add a lot of depth to the mutant-verse without including an "X-Man of the Month."

SPOILER! I thought that when he told his partner that he had never felt that way, even when he and his wife had been just dating, he was admitting that he knew what had happened and that it had shaken him greatly..

Thanks for replying, Mr. Yardin. Yup, there are a lot of unexplored details in the first issue. if it'd play in the bigger scheme of things as you would say, i would be looking forward to it.

heh, shows that i can not stereotype black-and-white and color art. :p your style just reminded me of some small press guys who mostly did B&W comics.

my apprehension came from Marvel's solicitation of the series. Marvel sells the series as a series "starring Bishop" and the covers always feature him. glad to hear that's not the case.

thanks!!! but i am really serious with the logo. the "X" needs a better redesign. I think they should deign the logo without thinking about how the logos were designed in other X-books.

I'll be there for the second issue, great review, and GOOD LUCK with the thesis paper, Erwin!!
can you believe it? i just wrote ONE FREAKING PAGE of revisions. twenty more to go... :p

What ticks me off is this were all equal as long as the main characters we see are white and everyone else is nothing more then side characters. Im not saying the writers are racist but what i am saying is that it doesnt take much to flesh out black characters. Bishop is a commander of mutant soldiers who had to deal with a society on the brink of war. He delt with more vicious criminals then any other xmen ever had to deal with. His sister was his commanding officer and bishop was a veteran cop by the time he came to this timeline. I appreciate CC for pointing out that Bishop knows how to take down all the xmen because he is a good tactician. Gambit never had this experience or Rogue but they were made leaders. Even Kitty pryde led excaliber a few times but bishop was always overlooked. There is no good reason for that because when the tables are reversed white characters are not treated like that.

This is as close as i will get to the whole XMen reloaded thing....snicker snicker....anyways the premise is definately promising. The artist has a real talent for storytelling, and the script was at first kinda mediocre, and then the twist! well, if this is any indication what the book will be like, then i think ill pick it up. just as long as we dont see any spandex.

The book had a fun feel to me. If it picks up the it might be one of my pulls but I will check out the first arc at least.
