Real Name: Frances Louise BarrisonOther Aliases: Sandra Deel First Appearance: Spider-Man Unlimited (1st series) #1 Known Allies: Carnage, Carrion II, Webber, Gale, Pyromania, formerly Demogoblin, Doppelganger II, Mayhem Major Enemies: Spider-Man I, Venom, Cloak, Dagger, Black Cat, Deathlok, Captain America I, John Jameson, Jackal I Powers: Sonic blasts, empathy, levitation Height: 5'8" Weight: 115 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Black Other Distinguishing Features: Chalk-white skin, blue marking on left eye When she was a child, Frances Barrison was abused by her parents, which led her to a life of drugs and being a groupie for various rock bands. Her time as a drug dealer led Frances to a skirmish with Cloak and Dagger. Her run-in with Cloak and his powers made Frances insane and triggered her own powers. Now called Shriek, Frances was incarcerated at the Ravencroft Institute. She was freed by the serial killer Carnage as he himself was escaping. The two became a couple and started a murder spree in Manhattan. They were soon joined by Spider-Man’s doppelganger, Demogoblin and Carrion, and fought Spider-Man, Venom and many other heroes during the chaos. Shriek began to view her company as a twisted family of sorts, with Carnage as her husband and the rest being their children. She would stay with Carnage, even though he would lash out at her whenever she took the initiative. Near the end of their slaughter circuit, Shriek used her empathic powers to incite riots and use the mobs against Spider-Man, Captain America and those who also tried to stop her. Shriek was later beaten and humiliated by Dagger, whom she thought to have killed earlier on. Then she and the others were defeated by Spider-Man and his team, and Shriek was sent back to Ravencroft. At Ravencroft, Shriek attempted to escape with the help of fellow inmates, Webber, Gale, Pyromania and Mayhem. Their efforts were thwarted thanks to the duo of Spider-Man and Ravencroft’s Chief of Security, John Jameson. Shriek eventually escaped, taking Carrion’s alter ego Malcolm McBride with her. She then used her empathy to have Carrion resurface and make Spider-Man more aggressive in his already emotional state. She hoped to be reunited with her “son” Carrion and have Spider-Man as his new father. Carrion could still remember his former life and real mom, and Shriek sought to remedy that by killing her. Spider-Man was able to stop Shriek, but then Carrion, who could decide who his mother was, used his powers on himself. Shriek unexpectedly saved Malcolm when absorbed the Carrion virus into herself. Recovering back at the Ravencroft Institute, Shriek treated the Carrion virus as if it were a child. The Jackal would later intercept Shriek and take the virus from her. Has Shriek appeared since the Jackal took the Carrion virus from her? I really liked her character.
