Captain Boomerang
Real Name: George "Digger" HarknessFormer Aliases: Mirror Master First Appearance: Flash (1st series) #117 Last Appearance: Identity Crisis #5 Cause of Death: Shot by Jack Drake Known Relatives: Owen Mercer (Captain Boomerang II, son), W.W. "Walt" Wiggins (father), Betty Harkness (mother, deceased), Ian Harkness (step-father), Tom Harkness (half-brother) Former Group Affiliation: Rogues Gallery, Suicide Squad, Secret Society of Super Villains Height: 5' 9" Weight: 167 lbs Eyes: brown Hair: grey, originally brown George Harkness was born in Australia, the illegitimate son of American to maker W.W. Wiggins. George grew up with his mother and her husband, unaware of his father's identity. George was always getting in trouble with the law and his presumed father always resented him for his behaviour and how he represented his mother's affair with Wiggins. After one of George's run ins with the law led to a nasty family fight, his mother sent him on his own to the United States. She arranged with Wiggins that he would have a job in Central City. Wiggins made him Captain Boomerang, a marketing gimmick designed to generate interest in boomerangs from children. Digger, as he became to be known, was not successful in advertising the boomerangs and after one particularly lousy day he tried to pick someone's pocket. He was spotted by the Flash and trying to escape managed to hit the Flash with a boomerang. Realising his skill and potency with the weapons he became Captain Boomerang full time, inventing a series of gimmicked boomerangs as well as using a supply of regular wooden ones. Boomerang would continue to run in with the Flash and joined his Rogues Gallery, a collection of Flash's greatest foes. With time he was incarcerated by the government and was approached about joining the Suicide Squad program. Boomerang joined the squad as he was anxious to gain his release. The premise of the squad was that a group of villains would complete hazardous government missions and if they survived they would be given freedom. Boomerang was rebellious and insubordinate from the start. The brains behind the Squad, Amanda Waller, repeatedly denied him freedom. For a time Boomerang borrowed Mirror Master's costume and gimmicked mirrors and managed to continue his criminal career in secret. It was during his the squad that Digger found out that his father was Wiggins. This revelation disgusted Digger as he felt he had lived a lie. After the Squad was disbanded Digger was approached by Abra Kadabra. Kadabra made him and the other Rogues an offer which he promised would bring them respect and notoriety at last. Indeed that they would be remembered as the most infamous villains of their age. Kadabra's offer of course had a catch. In this case it cost the Rogues their lives. The five completed a ritual which unleashed the arch demon Neron on the Earth. Neron took their bodies and used them to try and make Flash agree to a deal. Sending the Rogues' bodies to Earth, Neron animated them without their souls. Digger was no longer a bank robber who enjoyed matching wits with the Flash. Instead he was a soulless killer in command of vastly enhanced skills and weapons along with an avatar that caused huge amounts of damage and killed thousands. Flash managed to trick Neron and secure the return of the Rogues' souls to their bodies. Digger returned to his life of crime but had repeated failures. One of those was more serious than before Boomerang was planning a simple heist in Keystone City when he was confronted by the fourth Flash. This Dark Flash was Walter West, an alternate version of Wally West. The Dark Flash was not about to play with Digger as the other Flashes did and instead he turned his boomerangs against him. The resulting explosion led to near fatal injuries and Boomerang was taken in by Paul Gambi, the tailor ho outfitted most of the Rogues. Boomerang was embittered towards superheroes and along with his fellow Rogues agreed to funnel all his skills and properties of his weapons into Tony Gambi who would become the villain Replicant. Eventually Boomerang recovered from his crippling injuries. However, he has become a joke amongst the criminal underworld, long past his best. Digger is a shadow of his former self and is desperate for work as a mercenary. Recently he carried out a major operation to show he could still operate with the big boys. What this operation is has yet to be revealed. It has recently been uncovered that Digger managed to father a child with the villainess Golden Glider. Digger managed to get the address of his son from the criminal information broker Calculator but is yet to follow through on this discovery. Trying to impress his son after the two began to bond, Digger was hired by Jean Loring through the Calculator to assassinate Jack Drake, Robin's father. Jean had previously prepared Jack for the attack by sending him a gun to defend himself. Digger was shot by Jack and died but not before unleashing his last boomerang to kill Jack. Digger's son has taken up his legacy. Digger Harkness possesses a great skill at throwing boomerangs. As Captain Boomerang he is equipped with a variety of weapons. Most of those are standard normal boomerangs but he also has gimmicked boomerangs including electro boomerangs, explosive boomerangs, gas boomerangs, razor boomerangs, bladed boomerangs, sonic boomerangs, gravity boomerangs, weighted boomerangs and pre-programmed boomerangs. Digger has a real affinity for his weapons and has even managed to construct a giant boomerang and a dimension travelling boomerang. His skill with these weapons is almost second to none even though he has let himself go physically.
