Story Title: Love Let Her "How did I get here? Writer: Brian Azzarello Artist: Eduardo Risso Colorist: Trish Mulvihill Letterer: Clem Robins Cover: Dave Johnson Asst. Editor: Casey Seijas Editor: Will Dennis Created by: Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso Published by: Vertigo/DC Comics Suggested For Mature Readers Two-thirds into the neo-noir masterpiece that is Brian Azzarello (Batman: Broken City, Jonny Double) and Eduardo Risso's (Transmetropolitan) groundbreaking hard-boiled crime/conspiracy opus, 100 Bullets, and we're still being treated to a wonderful display of what true noir is all about: shadowed images, bleak urban settings, cynical and disillusioned characters--told with a dark, pulpy sensibility, and some of the best goddamn 'sideways', tongue-in-cheek, razor-sharp dialogue that you're likely to find in the medium of comics. Harness a strong, intelligent script dealing with themes of jealousy, infidelity, corruption and hopelessness, together with artwork rich in detail and religious/cultural atmosphere, and we have another issue of 100 Bullets that is as enticing to the reader's eye as Benito Medici is to the dames of this series. What always turns me on and fascinates me about this series, is the way Azzarello and Risso combine to produce a perfect synergy of timing and execution, something akin to the feelings I have when I read Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen and Mike Dringenberg and Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. The story within a story within a story, where the narrative describes, and gives insight to, two or three situations in the same breath. It's the multilayered approach to the storyline that I love about 100 Bullets--the ability to tell several stories--however unimportant to the course of the overall plot--all in one sitting. This latest issue of 100 Bullets features all the tropes familiar to the genre: the dangerous femme fatale; the dark bars; corrupt and morally-ambiguous low-life’s; crooks and socio-paths. This may sound as if 100 Bullets veers into that dangerous territory of being clichéd--but Azzarello has reworked these noir tropes into something fresh and innovative for this series superbly. Where 100 Bullets also delivers this issue, is in the mood and atmosphere that permeates throughout the book. Pessimism, melancholy, alienation--it's all here in abundance, beautifully illustrated by Risso, and given life by the lush colors of Trish Mulvihill. Whilst 100 Bullets #67 isn't the best of the series, it's still a great continuation thereof. ART: STORY: ![]() OVERALL: ![]() Buy 100 Bullets online now from X-World Comics and save! Though I haven't read the newest 100 Bullets issue I am glad that the comic is finally being reviewed and getting the credit it deserves. This is a great series and I have been reading it for a long time.

It's funny because this (along with Swamp Thing) is the only current Vertigo comic that I've never picked up. I suppose, because it's quite a chunk into its run, that my financial limits and completist nature make me wary of getting into it (yet) However I'm very glad you've reviewed this as it's reminded me to put some of the trades onto my Chrissie list, so hopefully I'll be able to say something more than ''great review, I'm curious about this'' in a few weeks.
Great review, I'm curious about this

I know there's Fables, Y: The Last Man, The Losers, etc out at the mo. for Vertigo, but once you get into this series, you'll never put it down.
