With any luck, I'll have all the art for the series by the time San Diego rolls around. Come take a look at it, I think you'll be impressed.

Thank you for clearing that up, Mr. Claremont. I'm sure you're licking your chops with this book. But you know everybody on this board here is going to hold you to your word. The San Diego Comic Con is only a few months away everybody expects to be wowed. You've already sold me on the New Mutants Forever concept. I look forward to tasting the meat of the series when it comes out. Until then, these mysterious covers are all we have to go on.

CBR just posted an advanced preview of New Mutants Forever #1. There are no words as of yet, but there is some sweet art, a few nice shots of the SPOILER! Hellfire Club, and a nice little fight scene with SPOILER! Magik. For this, I deem it awesome.

Very impressive preview so far.......And I see that Mr. Claremont gets to utilies SPOILER! Magneto's (and Emma Frost's) involvement within the Hellfire Club....And it should be interesting as to whether or not SPOILER! the original Hellions (Frost's "class") will be involved within the NMF Miniseries.....

For the record, as I believe I've said before, this story picks up pretty much precisely where I left off; you might well think of them as issue #'s 55-59. Setting at the start is the Hellfire Club in the aftermath of the Christmas adventure between the Mutants and the Hellions and -- well, on we go from there. So, Magneto both runs the Xavier School and is the newly inducted White King of the Hellfire Club. Storm still has a mohawk haircut and the Mutant Massacre has yet to happen, which means (for example) that Kitty's still part of the X-Men and Excalibur doesn't yet exist.

As for any direct involvement with the Hellions, that all depends on sales. If we can get the numbers, we have a case to advocate for a second arc or perhaps even an ongoing series. For our part, you have what I think is a cooleo story, with visuals by some of the best artists in today's biz and even a couple of (hopefully) enticing surprises along the way. The rest, as they say, is up to you.

For those who would like to see the bulk of the series, I'll be at San Diego -- in barely a fortnight! If you're there, come feast your eyes.

Best,

Chris Claremont

I assume you mean the events of "fall of the Mutants". The Mutant massacre occured shortly before rhe issues this series is supposed to follow.

I admit I'm curious to see where this story is going...

Hmmm. I do not like the art as I find the characters rather unrecognizable. Once they start talking I am sure that they'll click. Hopefully.

Regardless, I am stoked for this series! I was introduced to the New Mutants only fairly recently (last year?) via their Essential X-Men appearances. At first I did not much like them (who were these annoying kids taking space in my X-Men comics!?) but, as I started filling in the blanks of my Claremont X-Men collection, I eventually bought New Mutants Classic vol. 1 and fell madly in love with the team. There are only a handful of issues that I am missing now (of Claremont's run) so to have more New Mutants is great news for me.

I'll be even more pleased if nothing in New Mutants Forever really contradicts anything that happens to the New Mutants post-Claremont so that I can neatly fit it into my bookshelf after issue #52... (my last New Mutants issue)

DEFINITELY excited about this series and I am totally there, but I must admit the art isn't grabbing me. It's crisp and clean, but the bar was set ridiculously high in the series during Claremont's run. Again, it's not bad by any stretch, but it's missing something.

What could it possibly be missing? You've got the New Mutants, Chris Claremont, and Al Rio art. What more do you need?

Well, yeah. I have to admit I'd be absolutely exstatic if Sienkiewicz was doing interioirs, but, even though it is totally different and more 90's style, I do love Al Rio's art. First work of him I'd seen was in Gen13 (image teen-heroes comic) way back.

So I can see his choice as New Mutants artist, and I like his art.

Would TPB sales be a factor in this? Or are you hoping to have monthly sales so high you can segue directly into NMF#6 when the time comes?

I am just hoping that it the continuation from #54 feels seamless. If Claremont can recapture the tone and characterization, this is gonna be epic. Although I have been reading X-MEN FOREVER since the beginning and have REALLY been enjoying the later stuff, it was VERY jarring. Too many jumps. Wasn't X-MEN #1 supposed to have occurrred several months after UNCANNY X-MEN #280? That and the fact that CC really COULDLN'T do his original stories due to the fact that a good number of those plots was scrutinized upon his original departure, there really was no way for X-MEN FOREVER to be a direct continuation and because of that, it automatically loses something. Here's hoping he can maintain the feel here. From his interviews and that fact that he keeps saying this takes place literally minutes after the end of #54 sets this up to be even better than X-MEN FOREVER and much more authentic.

Here's hoping...

Claremont will hopefully get less unfair criticism given that his departure from New Mutants was at a fairly calm time in their world. X-Men Forever has the unenviable task of picking up at a very hectic time in the X-Men's lives, when there were quite a few different 'core' X-titles all over the place.

When is New Mutants Forever coming out? I'll be like meeting up with old friends...

Can't believe they shot down Excalibur Forever by Davis and CC.
