I've been reading it. It's not bad and I definitely think Nomad and Arana play off each other nicely.

I've liked both characters, with Arana since her inception, and Nomad since her appearances in Thunderbolts. Heroes Reborn doesn't count, does it?

I'm glad they're going to get some exposure in this title.

Hey don't be so harsh, Heroes Reborn wasn't all bad it gave us Rikki, Toro, Rebel and Kid Colt

I have to admit I didn't warm to Arana from her first appearance but shhe grew on me from Reed's MS. MARVEL run and I've always enjoyed Gravity (since his first appearance) and Firestar.

I love that this title has the feel of an early NEW WARRIORS (volume 1) and I just hope its as successful because I see a lot of potential

Cheers.

James.

Did Sean McKeever write the Sentinel book a few years ago? I wonder if that kid and his robot might make an appearance.

.....And FTR, McKeever wrote the SENTINEL Series twice..... The first time as a run for 12 Issues (under the TSUNAMI Title) and again as a Five Issue Miniseries....

And I hope to see both Juston Seyment & his "robot" again soon....

Is that really Arana's new costume? That looks awful.

On the plus side, before even reading word one of this, I'm willing to bet hard cash it will be better than McKeever's Titans run.

Dang it. If they'd only set the thing entirely in the past without reference to recent continuity changes, I'd have been really interested.

Any thoughts on Young Allies #1? I thought it was a bit breezy to read, but that's hardly a bad thing.
Some of the characters dropping into the picture when they do and how they do should have felt a lot more contrived but didn't, and the team banter is good - it wasn't until I later read the Nomad back-up in Captain America that the throwaway lines about Nikki's 'new home' took on a different meaning. My only real crits are that the Bastards Of Evil are one-note as villains, Firestar being on a teen team at her age, having no idea who Toro is and why I should care, but it's always good to see the MU's dumbest superhero Gravity ("Where has Greenwich Guardian got to? He disappeared just as Black Death showed up...") back in the hands of his creator.

After the disappointment of Avengers Academy, I thought this was a really good introductory issue.

I have to say, I don't quite see what you mean by it being a breezy read. I just can't see that at all.

Since you asked though, here are my thoughts on YOUNG ALLIES #1 (for the record, I also enjoyed AVENGERS ACADEMY so I am taking it at a different angle from you:

YOUNG ALLIES #1: Having now read this issue for myself, I see what everyone has meant about the title having an early NEW WARRIORS feel (and I don't know why some people are determined to right off this series, but then I remember fans doing that for the first 25+ issues of NW so it shouldn't be anything new) and this is only heightened in the preview of #2 (which was released yesterday) with the more established groups (the FF and Avengers) dismissing both Gravity and Firestar who refuse to take it (much as Marvel Boy refused to accept the rejection from the Avengers back in NW #1, giving you yet more, favourable, similarities).

I also like the introduction of the Bastards of evil (in particular, as an old MC2 fan I was pleased to see Aftershock in the regular MU) and enjoyed some of the banter between them (the banter, in battle, between singularity and Gravity, towards the end of the issue was also good fun!).

Another nice touch (which is really emphasising what I said above about how the title has an early NW feel) was the friendships that were both acknowledged from the past (in the case of Arana and Nomad, and I look forward to finding out what happened to her powers in ASM, just to clarify the situation there) and also the friendships formed in this issue (most noticably the bond between the regular MU/616 Toro and Arana).

I will be very interested to see how Nomad and Toro react to each other though (remembering that this is NOT the Toro that Rikki knows from Counter-Earth). I thought the last page was also very effective though, and I look forward to the next issue (especially after seeing the first 5 page preview).

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this title (and I was pleasantly suprised to see that editorial do not seem to have interfered with McKeever's run the way they did his Teen Titans run for DC) and I hope to see it last a good long time. In my opinion it fits into today's market.

Cheers.

James.

'Breezy' as in light and quick to read through, but also inoffensive, no major sticking points or story wallbangers - ephemeral, perhaps, not heavy with angst or insight to the human condition, but certainly nothing terrible and easily one of the best team debuts I've read in quite some time. My issues with Avengers Academy stemmed from over-familiarity, as I don't think anyone's in any doubt that book is Initiative 2.0 and it suffers in the comparison, but Young Allies comes with little or no baggage, seeing as Nomad was only created a year or so ago by Sean McKeever.
What's that? She was in Heroes..? Heroes Re--? Sorry, can't hear you. LALALALALALALALALALA

Up front I gotta say I didn't read New Warriors until recently, so the charm it may have had at the time of original publication is likely lost on me entirely, but I don't really see the New Warriors comparisons beyond the 'characters from canceled books' lineup. NW was blunt force at the best of times, and while it's too early to ascribe any great depth to Young Allies, there is already a subtlety at work in some scenes that sets it apart from NW - though I thought the Ground Zero stuff was pretty crass.

Oh I know what 'breezy' means, thank you (I'm not that naive) I just don't know if I agree that it is 'breezy' there is a lot of plot-starting for future developments. No angst is a good thing though, I have to agree. I would strongly argue that Avengers Academy is not Avengers Initiative 2.0. Its for that very reason that Gage had to introduce new characters for this series. due to where Gage is going, none of the established Initiative characters would have worked. I really don't understand the hatred of HEROES REBORN though, it gave us 3 excellent developments (the introduction of Rikki Barnes, the introduction of the HR Young Allies in the form of Kid Kolt and Toro and the exploration of Franklin Richards' powers).

McKeever writres a good Nomad, but I fail to see why he should take the credit for creating the character (he already has 2 excellent characters under his name, Gravity and Justin from the Sentinel series)

"Blunt force"?? You really haven't read the original NEW WARRIORS series at all, have you. The series raised intriguing moral questions (Did Tai and Chord have the right to hide the truth from Dwayne about his parents death for their own ends, how responsible *can* Vance be held for negligible homicide, he has a responsibility to control himself, but how much was his father's fate his fault? Then you have the argument of whether or not the Warriors had the right to go to the Amazon or to interfere in the Trans-Sabal situation. they have the power bjut does that give them the right?)

Then you have issues exploring serious health risks and the dis-satisfaction that revenge actually brings.

I would strongly argue that the original NEW WARRIORS series is actually one of the deepest ever explored and has a lot of depth.

To say that NW was just about "blunt force" shows a lack of awareness of what the series was all about, IMHO.

I don't mean to be overtly critical, I just can't see how you can refer to the original NEW WARRIORS series as a "blunt force at the best of times".

Cheers.

James.
