Plutonia was first seen as a member of the Imperial Guard when his Empress Lilandra, under the mental control of Charles Xavier's mutant twin sister Cassandra Nova, ordered the destruction of all mutants on Earth.

Soon after their arrival on Earth, Plutonia found her teammate and lover Smasher, who revealed Nova's infiltration to her. Plutonia informed the rest of the Guard, who then teamed with the X-Men to stop Nova.
