Patrick Lipton was a weapons specialist who worked with Interpol. He had a new weapon to be delivered to Rome and had a young Interpol agent named Sean Cassidy, who would be later the X-Man called Banshee, as his escort. En route to Rome by train, Lipton and Cassidy were intercepted by the terrorist organization known as Hydra. The two were able to escape the train unnoticed, and then tried to get it running again, saving the other passengers. Hydra found them shortly after, and Lipton tried to fight them off after Cassidy got shot. Outnumbered by Hydra, and with Sean being injured, Lipton surrendered so that they would spare Sean. Lipton was considered by Interpol to be a traitor, and never tried to rescue him.

Held in a Hydra fortress in Ireland, Patrick Lipton was interrogated by the terrorists for his weapons expertise. After the interrogations, Lipton remained a prisoner at the fortress for the rest of his life. Years later, Sean Cassidy, now known as Banshee, found out that Lipton was still alive and went to save him, for Lipton saving his life years ago. He found Lipton on his deathbed, only in time to say their last good-byes.
